      Before you hit the road, check the front wheel - spin it. The wheel should spin freely and not catch on the brake pads. Sometimes, after removing the front wheel and transporting it, it becomes necessary to adjust the front disc brake. Therefore, you need to know the basics of setting up disc brakes.

      3. Cover your bike

      You can pack a semi-disassembled bicycle in a fabric case, purchased or sewn yourself. You can also make bicycle packaging from scrap materials.

      Packing a bike from scrap materials

      For disposable bicycle packaging you need to buy or find:

      • a large piece of plastic film or garbage bags
      • roll of tape
      • Wrap the bicycle elements in polyethylene and secure with tape.

        Scotch tape may not be sold at small stations; it is better to take it from home in sufficient quantity for the trip.

        Packing the bike in a case

        • It is more convenient to start covering the bike when it is upside down (standing on the saddle and handlebars). The bicycle handlebar with fork (after removing the front wheel and shield) is rotated 90 degrees towards the rear derailleur.
          If the pedals are not removed, rotate them so that on the rear derailleur side the pedal is low to the ground (if the bike is upside down, it is on top).
        • Place the cover on the bike, secure it (close the lock, connect the Velcro, buttons on the side, etc.)
        • Turn the bike over if it was standing on the handlebars and saddle. Hold the cover so that its position does not change when turning the bike
        • Place the removed front wheel on the right pedal, lowered down. The rotor, if you have a disc brake, should face the inside of the bike.

          The wheels can be additionally fixed to the bicycle frame

        • Place the shield and bike bags inside the case. Now the cover can be closed at the top. It's ready to carry!

          HOW TO DISASSEMBLY AND COVER A BICYCLE WITH TWO WHEELS REMOVED

          1. To disassemble a bicycle by removing two wheels, you must first repeat the same steps as when removing one wheel.

          • remove unnecessary items from the bike
          • unfasten the V-Brake (now not only on the front wheel, but also on the rear)
          • lower or remove the saddle
          • remove the front wheel
          • 2. Remove the rear wheel

            Removing the rear wheel is not fundamentally different from removing the front one, but it involves several additional steps:

            • press the eccentric and unscrew it completely, holding the installation nut on the other side
            • remove the eccentric by removing its axle from the wheel hub. Tighten the installation nut on the removed eccentric so that the springs do not get lost
            • remove the wheel, for convenience you need to pull the rear derailleur tab back and lift the bicycle chain
            • 3. Unscrew the rear derailleur with the cock from the bicycle frame

              If you simply remove the rear wheel, the rear derailleur will protrude beyond the frame. The derailleur is an expensive and valuable part of the bicycle, so you need to take care of it and protect it from accidental impacts.
              To remove the rear derailleur you will need a hex wrench. You need to unscrew the bolt that connects the cock to the bicycle frame. Once the bolt is unscrewed, screw the fixing nut to the removed cock so that it does not get lost.

              Now you need to secure the gear selector with the cock to the bicycle frame so that it is not in danger of being hit. The switch can be secured with a rubber band or tape inside between the two upper stays of the bicycle frame. Pay attention to the hanging chain; it is also better to fix it to the frame so that it does not get in the way or get tangled.

              4. Remove the rotor from the wheel (if you have disc brakes)

              The rotor can be bent quite easily, removing it will make it safer. To do this you will need to unscrew 6 bolts. After removing the rotor, retighten the bolts to prevent them from being lost. If you skip this step in disassembling your bike, when packing the rear wheel in the case, make sure that the wheel is in a position that is safe for the rotor.

              5. Unscrew one pedal (left), if necessary - two

              To do this, the pedal is unclenched with a special tool (depending on the type of pedals), then unscrewed by hand until it comes off. Please note that one of the pedals unscrews in the opposite direction. After transportation, the pedal is tightened in the reverse order (you can first tighten it by hand, then tighten it with a tool).
