How to drain all the water from the heating system. Prevention of water heating systems in a private home

It would seem that what could be simpler than draining the water from the heating system? After all, to do this, just connect the drain hose to the battery and open the water. However, an incorrectly performed operation can lead to the most unpleasant results, especially in the event of unforeseen situations in apartments, where you can simply flood all your neighbors with water. About the rules for removing liquid from heating system we'll talk about it in this article.

Draining the coolant in the apartment correctly

You should only interfere with the operation of the heating system if such actions are necessary for the normal operation of communications, the prevention or elimination of breakdowns. For example, it is impossible to replace a radiator in a room without first draining the liquids. In addition, it is necessary to remove liquid from the pipes when leaks occur, the system is contaminated, and, if necessary, replace the coolant with a new one.

In an autonomous home heating system, it is easiest to drain the coolant. To carry out such work, no special permits or approvals are required, since even the occurrence of unforeseen situations in this case cannot damage significant harm to people. To replace the coolant, we perform the following work:

  1. 1. turn off the heating boiler;
  2. 2. wait for the water in the system to cool completely;
  3. 3. close the cold water supply valve to the system;
  4. 4. open special air valves, which are necessarily present in closed communications.

Modern heating networks have drain valves that are located at the lowest point of the system - usually on the return pipeline in close proximity to the boiler. After completing the operations described above, connect a hose to this tap through which water can be drained from the circuit. When there is no coolant left in the heating network, you can begin to repair the communication, replace its damaged elements, or any other work for which the drain was performed.

It is more difficult to properly drain water from the pipes and batteries of an autonomous system if a “warm floor” is installed in the house. In this case, to remove the coolant, you will have to connect a compressor to the inlet pipe of the network, which will help displace water from the pipes using air pressure. Although it is not always necessary to completely drain the water from the system. For example, if you need to replace only one in the house heating battery, you can drain the coolant only from it, of course, if the design of the system and the features of its installation allow this.

It is highly desirable to provide for the possibility of draining water from a specific radiator by installing valves and taps.

So that when following the described recommendations, replacing the coolant does not cause big problems, it is necessary to prepare a container of suitable size in advance. It should contain all the liquid from autonomous heat supply. In some cases, you can simply use a long hose that is pulled from the heating drain tap to the street. However, the longer the hose and the older it is, the higher the likelihood of leaks occurring during heating network repairs.

Draining coolant from a heating system located in an apartment building is much more difficult. If you need to remove water from a communication in order to modernize it, you will have to empty the entire riser pipe running through all apartments located in the same vertical from the coolant. Such repairs require prior approval from the company that services the heat supply of the apartment building.

The service of draining water from the riser is paid, it is performed by employees of the responsible company, its cost depends on the time of repair. The most expensive drain is winter period during heating season, and it’s cheaper in the summer. Therefore, you should plan in advance for the modernization and maintenance of heating elements.

How to replace a radiator - dismantling procedure in an apartment building

The easiest way to replace a radiator is in relatively new apartments, in which engineering communications are installed correctly, and builders have provided the ability to drain liquid from the system without affecting the common riser. To replace the radiator in such an apartment, first close the shut-off valves at the battery inlet, thereby stopping the supply of water to individual sections of the heating network, but without stopping the circulation of the liquid as a whole. Your further actions when working with coolant depend on whether the system design includes outlet valves on the radiators. If there are taps, then you just need to connect a hose to them and drain the liquid into a large container.

Single-pipe heating needs to be handled differently. You will first have to open the valve on the bypass (bypass), which is a backup path for the coolant, which is used to replace the radiator. Only after opening the bypass valve can you close the shut-off valves on both sides of the battery itself.

After this, you can begin to disconnect the radiator from the heating network in the house. When a new battery is installed instead of a broken one, it is necessary to check the sealing of the connection, check the tightness of the lock nuts and only then gradually open the valves at the inlet and outlet of the radiator. At the end, you can open the Mayevsky tap and slowly close the bypass so that the radiator fills gradually. Slowly filling the system will prevent water hammer, and air will escape from the battery through the Mayevsky valve. The tap can be turned off once water starts flowing through it.

We solve problems with the heating network

Problems with engineering communications happen quite often, but to repair the heating supply it is not at all necessary to always remove the coolant from the pipes. The most common heating problems include:

  • air entering the system circuit;
  • pollution;
  • insufficient diameter of system pipes;
  • low circulation pump power;
  • absence check valves in complex networks;
  • making various errors during installation work.

Problems in the heating network are often related to each other. For example, the gurgling of water in pipes can be caused by air getting into the pipes, poor sealing of connections, or the presence of leaks. In order for the system to provide the apartment with the necessary amount of thermal energy and not cause discomfort to users, it must be constantly checked. Monitor the quality of the connection, bleed air through the Mayevsky taps, and if you find a problem on your own and cannot get rid of it, turn to professionals for help.

Calling specialists in a timely manner when detecting the slightest signs of problems in the heating operation will allow you to avoid serious malfunctions, to eliminate which you will have to spend your money and time, obtain permission to drain water from the riser and coordinate your work with the responsible authorities.

How to drain water from a water supply system

From time to time it may be necessary to completely turn off all taps, fittings, sanitary equipment, or even drain water from all water supply network, (for example, if the house remains unheated throughout the winter).

In this case, it is necessary to perform the following operations, which we present in technological sequence.

Draining. We turn off the water supply to the house. We disconnect gas and electricity from water heating systems. In the presence of central heating it is necessary to open the outlet valve located on the boiler or on the pipes, for which they usually resort to using a hose. Then you need to open all the valves on the radiators. Starting from the top floor of a house or mansion, open all the taps hot water in the shower, bathtub, etc. Don't forget to drain the toilet tank as well.

We remind you once again: all water outlet taps on the heater and other equipment must be open. And lastly: it is necessary to open the outlet taps of the main water supply line so that all the remaining water leaves. If you leave your house or cottage for the winter for long time, then take the time to make sure once again that all the water has left the system. As additional protection against frost, add salt or a glycerin tablet to the water remaining in the siphons. This will protect the siphons from possible rupture and eliminate the possibility of odors from the pipelines entering the room.

Rice. 1. 1 - compression plug; 2 - pin; 3 - threaded plug; 4 - nozzle

In the process of draining water from the system, it often becomes necessary to disconnect some of its sections. In this case, you need to use plugs. The most common plugs are shown in Figure 26.

Filling the system with water. The first step is to close the drain valves on the main pipes. Then you need to close all the taps in the house, including the boiler and water heater taps. If there is a heater cold water you need to open the valve on the radiator and let air in. After all these manipulations, slowly open the main valve of the system and gradually fill the system with water.

Even before turning on the boiler, the batteries must be purged with air. At the final stage, turn on the gas and electricity to turn on the heater and boiler.

Measures to prevent water from freezing. There is a possibility of cold penetration from the street due to malfunctions in the heating system. In this case, it is very important to immediately take the necessary measures against freezing of pipes, since frozen water in them will immediately rupture the pipeline. In very cold weather, even those pipelines that were laid without violating the requirements can freeze, which often happens with pipes for supplying heat to a garage or basement.

What measures can be taken to prevent this? If Vacation home electrified, in the cold area where the pipe runs, turn on the electric heater or simply place a 100-watt lamp near the pipe. For these purposes, you can even use a hair dryer to dry your hair. It is very good if you insulate the pipe before the onset of winter by wrapping it in newspapers and tying it with rope.

If the pipe is already frozen, wrap it in rags of any material and pour a thin stream of hot water so that the material around the pipe remains hot at all times.

- How to drain water from a water supply system

Facing repair work When going on a long trip or becoming a victim of an emergency, many people wonder whether it is necessary to drain the water from the heating system? In most cases, the answer is positive, although there are also situations where it is possible to fix a problem or make repairs with radiators filled with liquid.

Although the draining procedure is not particularly complicated, following the operating instructions is important nuance. If you violate the procedure, you can flood the floors with water. own home. And if the drainage is carried out in multi-storey building, then neighbors may also suffer from incorrect actions.

Why do you need to drain water from heating systems?

Draining the heating system is necessary in the following cases:

  • when it is necessary to eliminate leaks in pipes;
  • if old radiators are replaced with more modern models;
  • when are they implemented preventive measures to clean the system from accumulated contaminants;
  • if you need to replace the coolant.

It is impossible to carry out this work with filled cavities of batteries and pipes. Water is drained in the event of an emergency or at a time when the owners of the homes intend to leave the premises for a long time.

Design features of the heating system drain

The heating system of an apartment building and a private building has significant differences. Heating in the cottages occurs through autonomous system, which includes the boiler, pipelines, valves and radiators themselves, and sometimes installed system warm floors.

In multi-storey buildings, the main structural elements are the supply and return risers, internal system pipelines, shut-off valves, drain valves and the batteries themselves. In this regard, draining water from the heating system will be slightly different for both systems, although the operating principle is the same.

Having understood the main elements of the heating structure, you can begin to empty it. How to properly drain the heating system in private and apartment buildings?

Drain in a private house

For the draining procedure, the cottage owner will have to prepare a hose in advance, through which the liquid released from the system will flow. One end of the hose is connected to the boiler tap, the other is sent to the most convenient place for the home owner, where the structure can be emptied without damage (to the ground personal plot, sewer).

Sequence of actions for draining water:

However, if the owner of a private house has a heated floor system installed, then the above-described scheme will not help him. To remove liquid from it, you will need to use a special compressor.

Drain in an apartment building

Emptying the heating system in a multi-storey building is more difficult in that it is necessary to obtain permission from the local management company for the procedure of draining the riser. This service is paid, and the date will be set not by the owner of the apartment, but by housing and communal services employees, which may cause some inconvenience.

It is better to plan heating system repair work for the end of spring - summer - beginning of autumn, since during the heating period it is possible to drain the liquid only for a few hours and at a high cost.

However, it is possible to replace the battery or carry out minor repairs without emptying the entire battery. heating structure. Most radiators are equipped with valves that can be used to block the flow of coolant to a local area.

Procedure:

  1. The tap is closed to shut off the water supply to the radiators.
  2. Using an adjustable wrench, remove the plug or, if present, open the outlet valve. The liquid is drained into a basin or bucket.
  3. If there are no outlet holes, you will have to disconnect the battery completely and get rid of the coolant through the top.

If more serious repairs are required than just replacing the radiator, then you need to drain the riser. This procedure is performed by management company employees as follows:

  1. The valve in the attic or ceiling of the upper floor is closed.
  2. The valve in the basement or basement closes.
  3. The plug is removed or the drain valves are opened, and the coolant is discharged from the system.

As you can see, the procedure for ridding the system of coolant has significant differences for different types of houses.

When is it necessary to drain water from the heating system? Most often, the need for it arises when it is necessary to clean or replace a heating radiator, for example. If we are talking about a city apartment that is connected to central system heating, then a similar operation can be carried out independently on the internal section of the network. In the event that it is necessary to drain the heating system of a private house equipped with a boiler, it will have to be temporarily emptied.

The essence of the

The first step is to shut off the branch of the heating riser that goes to the apartment. It is enough just to close the distribution valve located here. For a private house with an autonomous heating system, this process is slightly different:

  • firstly, you need to stop the supply of fuel or electrical energy;
  • secondly, you should carefully read the user instructions for this case.

Only after this can the boiler be turned off. Then you should close the valve through which water is drawn into the system.

To speed up the process a little, you will need to know those places in the system where taps with air-type valves may be located. They all need to be opened. In this case, nothing will interfere with the flow of water to the hose.

During this operation, small leaks of water from the system onto the floor are possible. Therefore, at the very beginning, it is better to place a large bowl or basin under the place where the hose is connected to the tap (drain). As all the water leaves the system, it is necessary to disconnect the hose and drain the remaining water from it into a substitute container.

Only after completing all the described procedures can you move on to the main thing - to the work for which the water was drained from the heating system of a residential apartment or private housing construction.

If the owner of an apartment or house does not quite understand how to drain the water from the heating without harmful consequences, then it is better to contact a qualified contractor. For example, to a plumber from a company that services a specific home.

Produce often becomes a necessary measure related to an emergency situation in autonomous heating at home or when the owners leave for a long period of time in the winter. The question of how to do this was discussed in another article.

If you have a heating system installed with natural circulation(Fig. 1), you must immediately ensure that the boiler stops working. Only after this can you produce draining water from the heating system. The discharge is made through a tap (valve), which should be located at the lowest point of the return line, usually next to the boiler. It is advisable to have a hose for this type of work. One end of the hose must be put on the tap, and the other end must be extended to the nearest place with soil, for example, a front garden, a vegetable garden, or, in extreme cases, drained into the sewer. After this, open the tap and wait until the hose stops flowing. It often happens that not everything has flowed out of the system; make sure that after removing the hose you can remove any remaining water.

Using the same method, you can discharge water from heating with forced circulation, which includes a pump that is not included in the boiler design. The reset procedure is the same.

Many modern systems equipped with boilers, which includes circulation pump(Fig.2). The heating system installation method differs from the above, therefore, the supply and return pipes can be located above the baseboard or in the floor structure, just like the “warm floor” system.

1. Firstly, turn off the boiler.

2. Place the hose on the tap from which water is drained from the heating system. It is advisable to put it on the return line (the right pipe coming from the boiler) to make a reset faster. If they are not under the boiler, find where they are. The other end of the hose can be directed into the sewer (a specially made outlet for drainage) or simply into a bucket.

3. Open the tap, wait until the water stops flowing (pressure drops) and turn off the tap.

4. Now we need to organize air access into the system. To do this, open the highest Mayevsky tap, usually installed on the heated towel rail (if equipped). If it is absent, on any radiator (for two-story house, On the second floor).

5. Repeat the water draining procedure using the hose.

6. Now you can open all the remaining closed Mayevsky taps and repeat draining the water from the heating system again.

7. That's not all, now remove the hose from the return line and put it on the supply valve.

8. And reset again. The lower the hose is located along its entire length relative to the taps, the more water will drain from the heating.

Please note that water cannot be removed from the “warm floor” system in this way; a compressor or other equipment must be used.

Draining water from the heating system is not a quick procedure and requires some attention.
