How to choose a fireplace for an apartment. How to choose a gas fireplace using bottled gas, what quality criteria to focus on

Gas fireplaces for country house- a fairly common phenomenon. They gradually pushed wood-fueled models into the background. Their indisputable advantage is their cost-effectiveness and easy installation method.

Gas is a versatile and inexpensive fuel that is often used for heating country houses, while the financial costs for it are significantly lower than with And also one cannot remain silent about the conveniences: there is no need to clean out ash, remove a lot of garbage, there is no smell of smoke, thanks automatic control It’s easy to maintain a constant room temperature, turns on at the touch of a button, and much more. A stove, gas fireplace and other similar appliances have all these advantages. These models can give you the pleasure of a live fire without constantly maintaining it.

Gas fireplace design

Like any other household appliance, gas fireplaces have a specific design. Let's look at its main parts:

  • a device that regulates the pressure of the supplied fuel;
  • a special chamber where gas combustion occurs;
  • automatic system installed to control combustion;
  • for a fireplace (nozzle), which is located directly in the combustion chamber;
  • decorative elements, thanks to which they reproduce the effect of a natural wood firebox.

Advantages of gas models

  • Universal heating device.
  • Original design design.
  • Simple design.
  • Long service life.
  • Due to the fact that gas fireplaces for a country house have high efficiency(efficiency factor), then only 20% of the fuel is wasted, and 80% is used for heating the premises. This, of course, speaks to its profitability. For comparison: in other species this figure is less than half, or even more.
  • Easy and quick installation. Installation of equipment along with preparatory work takes about 2-3 days.
  • Economical: the cost of gas fuel is much lower than other types.
  • Environmentally safe for human health and environment. When burned, they decompose into derivatives that do not contain harmful substances. Typically these are carbon dioxide and water vapor.
  • The power of such devices deserves special attention. For example, when comparing identical models powered by gas and electricity, this parameter differs by 8-13 kW in favor of the first option. Based on this, we can say with confidence that for heating a house up to 60 square meters. m is enough for a gas fireplace, the power of which reaches 6 kW.

Let's discuss the disadvantages

A gas fireplace, of course, has its disadvantages. However, compared to the advantages, they are negligible. But you still need to familiarize yourself with them:

  1. Purchase and subsequent installation of additional equipment, in particular gas tanks. Thanks to them, the heat generator is powered.
  2. Installation of this type of equipment should only be carried out by qualified workers. The fuel supply system is adjusted so that gas continuously flows into the combustion chamber.
  3. If installed gas fireplace for a summer residence, it is necessary to arrange a special storage facility on the site. The cost of such work is quite high.
  4. It is worth noting that they do not have high level fire safety.
  5. Aesthetic point: the pleasant sound of crackling wood when burning is completely absent.
  6. will require approval from the relevant authorities. And this process is usually not pleasant.

Gas fireplaces in interiors

Gas fireplaces for the home have an excellent design in appearance. When using the appropriate materials, they can be decorated to look like a massive wood burner or, conversely, give them a more elegant look. Thanks to this, such models can be used in rooms decorated in different styles.

It has already become a tradition to install fireplaces in country houses. They are truly a central piece of furniture that attracts attention. Also, its presence fills the atmosphere with comfort and warmth, because it is so nice to sit in an armchair in front of the fireplace in the evening and admire the live fire.

Common design solutions:

  • Combine the color of the fireplace trim with window drapery and furniture upholstery. This method will help create a cohesive composition. For example, preference may be given white color, while the palette of the main surfaces - walls, ceiling and floor - should be a more saturated shade, brown, yellow, blue, etc. The room will immediately be transformed and will be bright and elegant. This effect is possible due to contrast.
  • A gas fireplace for a summer house fits perfectly into modern design trends. For example, if the room is decorated in high-tech style, then preference is given to metal framing. On the background wooden walls such a design will look quite profitable and impressive.
  • Very often, double-sided models are used for zoning rooms. To do this, a corresponding partition is constructed, and the fireplace itself is installed there. However, we must remember that installation work should be trusted only to professionals.

Wall gas fireplace

As the name suggests, this model is installed directly against the wall. It has quite impressive dimensions, so it is suitable only for spacious rooms. The design consists of basic elements: a chimney and a firebox. Recommended for installation in living rooms or hallways. Used for decoration natural materials, such as stone, brick, ceramic tiles.

Corner model

These fireplaces have a very attractive design. Thanks to its appropriate shape, it can be placed in any corner of the room, which will not take up much space. Unlike the first option, the chimney for such models is laid out in a certain way using metal structures and concrete blocks. For finishing, plaster, brick, and stone are most often used.

Built-in fireplace

The built-in gas fireplace has compact dimensions that allow it to be installed in small rooms. As a rule, the most common models are 70 x 80 and 60 x 70. Its main advantage is the hidden location of the chimney. Light material is chosen for decoration: tempered glass, etc. This option is ideal for bedrooms. Thanks to this, the atmosphere in the room will be filled with warmth and comfort.

Island models

In larger country homes, you can install an island gas fireplace. Using this model, space is often divided into certain zones. Its advantage is that panoramic view opens from all sides of the fireplace. It is these models that can become that necessary highlight that will immediately transform the interior. The firebox in island fireplaces can be either closed type, and open. However, there is a significant disadvantage in this design - low heat transfer. Therefore, it is most often used for decorative purposes.

Desire to arrange real fireplace not only at home, but also at the dacha pushes the owner to search for different alternative options and choosing the most suitable one. What kind of fireplace is needed for a summer house? One that will serve as a cozy hearth, gathering the whole family for evenings, lovers for romantic meetings, and lonely people for philosophical thoughts. But do not forget that the fireplace must quickly and efficiently heat a cold room. Electric fireplaces are definitely not suitable for these purposes and the capabilities of electric fireplaces are questionable.

When choosing between traditional fireplaces and gas-powered devices, you should consider in detail all the advantages and disadvantages of a particular type of fireplace.

An original decorative element for the living room

Advantages of gas equipment

Gas as a fuel began to be used relatively recently in many regions. But during this time it has earned its popularity due to its high heat output and low cost. The idea of creating a gas fireplace for the home is visited not only by manufacturers. However, there is no need to open conquered peaks and you can use any of the already created models.

  • Gas fireplaces have high efficiency. Compared to wood-burning fireplaces, technologies for efficient use of the released heat are used here. Due to this, the proportion of energy released in the form of heat increases.
  • Closed fireboxes not only affect the amount of heat, but also provide the proper level of safety. It consists in the absence of sparks and constantly falling coals. Therefore, the safety of casual fireplaces comes first on the list of advantages.
  • To light a gas fireplace for your cottage, you just need to press a button on the remote control. This type of fuel will save you from constant cleaning of the ash pan and firebox, soot in the corners of the room and forever dirty hands. Gases that are combustion products have a low temperature. This simplifies the requirements for the design of the chimney, and in models to which gas is supplied from a cylinder, there is no chimney at all. Steam exhaust and carbon dioxide performed using coaxial hoses directly to the roof or window.

Fireplace system in a modern interior

  • You can adjust the burning intensity. Moreover, the variety of functions depends on the type of electronic controller. Modern fireplaces have the ability to change the height of the flame, its intensity, and the temperature at which the fireplace should turn off. The automation system plays an active role in ensuring safety. Thus, “sense organs” are sensors that respond to a drop in pressure, an increased content of carbon dioxide, a flame failure, or a falling fireplace.
  • There is no need to store it, like, for example, firewood or coal.
  • A large distance from the gas main to the house will not be a reason to refuse such decoration as a fireplace. For this purpose, an autonomous option is used - a gas fireplace using bottled gas.
  • A fireplace, subject to the necessary measures, combining its decoration with the interior of the room.

The cost of such a fireplace is slightly higher than that of its analogues, but the reliability and ease of installation cover this difference, making the purchase a profitable option.

Device and functions

Natural gas and bottled gas fireplaces have the same structure and differ only in the diameter of the nozzle on the burner. The firebox contains a heat exchanger with an increased area due to the design of the fins. The burnt gas enters the smoke collector - a special conical casing designed to prevent combustion products from scattering and entering the room. The chimney is a continuation of the smoke collector.

Wall-mounted fireplace variation for an apartment

Gas is supplied to the furnace using a burner, which is a pipe with nozzles. Located in the lower part, it is practically invisible to the observer. Some models provide for masking the burner with fake logs. This dummy is made of ceramic and does not burn from flame.

If the fireplace model is closed, the firebox is protected by special fire-resistant glass. Through it you can calmly admire the living flame. The automation system or controller is located in the cold zone. It serves to process signals coming from sensors and provides feedback, regulating the gas supply.

Fireplaces using liquefied gas are equipped with a compartment in which the cylinder is placed. You can easily install such a cylinder in the fireplace body under the firebox itself. Its capacity depends on the specific model.

When you turn on the fireplace by pressing a button or turning a knob (it all depends on the model of the control panel), feeding begins. Then, using the piezoelectric effect, a spark is created that ignites the gas. The fireplace has started and will begin heating to the set range.

What will influence the choice

But not to waste own strength and the strength of the seller, you can prepare in advance the characteristics of the model you need. A simple plan will help you create these characteristics.

Dummies of firewood in the firebox are almost like real ones

Despite the similarity in structure and operating principle, fireboxes designed for different types gas are not interchangeable. Decide in advance which type of gas is most convenient for you to use. It is easy to recognize the types of fireplaces by fuel type by special symbols on the device code. Fireboxes designed for natural gas, are marked with the letter “N”, and for a propane-butane mixture – “P”.

Remember that a fireplace has two functions. For creating appearance and style in the room you can ignore specifications devices. But if you are purchasing a gas fireplace, which should work like a real heater, then you will have to take other parameters into account.

The main indicator of a fireplace’s performance is its power. Calculation of the heated area is mathematical in nature and is quite difficult for the buyer. It is recommended to evaluate the capabilities of the selected fireplace based on the fact that to fully heat 10 m2 of room area, 1 kW of power is required. After measuring and calculating the area, it is not difficult to obtain the recommended indicator.

Having decided on the parameters, you can begin to select the location for further installation. Depending on the mounting method and location of the fireplace, there are different models.

Built-in fireplace system option

  • Wall-mounted fireplaces are a reflection of modernity. In addition, this is a great option to save the fireplace from pets or small children. These types of models are light enough to hang on the wall.
  • Floor-standing fireplaces have a ready-made body and do not require additional modification. They can be used immediately after connection by a specialist (in the case of using mains gas) or independently (in the case of using bottled gas). The exact orientation at the installation site is affected only by the convenience of installing the gas pipeline.
  • The classic look is reminiscent of framed portals. This portal can be completed independently or purchased together with the firebox. Deserves special consideration street version fireplace without a chimney, since it is built entirely by the residents of the house with their own hands. This option is also called open.

It is impossible not to say about the subtypes of the above classification. These are wall, corner and. Wall-mounted ones are mounted against the wall of the room and have an external or built-in chimney. The outer one is closed from above with a casing and lined with brick. But gas fireplaces for a country house should save space, so they are often used corner models. They fit so harmoniously into the corner that with skillful selection facing material they do not take away volume from the room.

The efficiency and service life are affected by the material from which the firebox itself is made. Steel is quite unstable to temperature changes and can “burn out” over time; moreover, its ability to remove heat is much worse than that of the cast iron variation.

Double-sided fireplace system

The disadvantage is its weight. But it doesn't exceed the average maximum load for various floors. This means that any gas fireplace can be installed without a foundation, on a horizontal surface prepared in advance.

How automation ensures safety

The combustion mode control and monitoring system is a complex complex of nodes interacting with each other. In addition to special functions that increase the comfort of using the fireplace, the security system is constantly active.

If the pressure in the cylinder is already less than a certain critical value, then the switch is activated, organizing the extinguishing of the flame. When carbon monoxide levels rise, they also cause shutdowns. This is especially true in cases where there is a strong wind outside and the flame accidentally goes out. Free-standing fireplaces are equipped with fall sensors. If the fireplace is accidentally touched and knocked over, the gas supply is suspended until the fireplace reaches a vertical position.

Choose a worthy specimen for your home that will delight you long time, taking into account all the above criteria.

Most often you can find it on wood.

They are good because their service life can be several decades, but they require constant cleaning and periodic maintenance. In addition, you need to think about preparing firewood for the heating season.

For those who want to simplify their life, there are gas fireplaces using bottled gas. The volume of heat generated is enough to heat the house, and there is much less fuss around the unit. This fireplace is configured to operate using liquefied gas or propane-butane.

Many owners of dachas have managed to appreciate the convenience of this method of housing, because there are times when there is no access to natural gas or there are power outages.

  • Burners. Liquefied gas burns in a burner, the decomposition products, heating to high temperatures, flow around, warming up the fireplace. The operating principle is similar to a conventional kitchen oven.
  • Fireplaces with flameless heating system. An infrared burner is installed in the center of the fireplace, which is responsible for heating the unit.
  • Fireplaces with catalyst burners. When mixed with oxygen, the gas from the cylinder does not ignite, but succumbs to the oxidation process on the catalyst grid, releasing heat at low temperatures.

Note. The safest gas fireplace using bottled gas is considered to be one that operates on a catalyst burner, since the temperature in the heat exchanger does not exceed 240 ºС.

In a gas infrared fireplace, the surface heats up to 1100 ºС, in units based on nozzles – up to 800 – 850 ºС. Please note that hot air in the room absorbs oxygen and leads to a decrease in humidity levels, so it is very important to ensure the organization of supply and exhaust air in the house.

The advantages of using bottled gas include the fact that its combustion does not produce toxic substances, which cannot be said about non-gasoline or diesel burners. It has long been known that gasoline, for example, emits carbon monoxide, which can cause poisoning of the body. The amount of soot and fuel residues formed fluctuates within 0.01%, efficiency is at the level of 95-98%. U different models- differently.

You can refill cylinders at gas stations, and connecting to the system takes just a few minutes. Gas fireplaces modern types, equipped automatic systems controls, which greatly simplifies their operation.

Often what stops people from buying a gas fireplace for a summer cottage under a cylinder is the high cost of such a unit and the high cost of gas. At first glance, it may seem that heating with regular wood is much more profitable, but if you dig deeper and understand the intricacies of how gas fireplaces work, your opinion may radically change.

Total expenses

To understand the approximate amount of expenses, we suggest using the calculation formula:

  • 1 m³ of firewood is capable of producing heat on average of 2300-2500 kW/h, with a fuel material moisture level of 12%. Propane – 6710 kW/h;
  • The efficiency of a fireplace using bottled gas is 97%, while a wood-burning design can produce no more than 25-27%;
  • 1 m³ of firewood costs about 1,500 rubles, the cost of propane-butane for the same volume is 19,000 rubles.

Thus, having these data and making an approximate comparison, it turns out that in order to obtain the equivalent amount of heat produced from firewood and bottled gas, you need 1.2 rubles and 1.1 rubles, respectively, for each type of fuel. It turns out that to heat your home with propane, you will spend no more money than on firewood. And taking into account the tariff for transporting firewood, propane will actually cost less.

How to choose a fireplace

Fireplace location rules

To organize heating in your home using a gas fireplace using bottled gas, you must do the following:

Types of fireplaces

Infrared gas fireplaces using bottled gas

Gas fireplaces of this type are the most efficient and economical. Their power is enough to heat small house. The heater design has a steel body and a burner, which is located in the center of the unit. The principle of their operation is to locally heat part of the room. Most of all, such fireplaces are suitable for cottages consisting of one room, like a studio apartment.

If desired, you can make an infrared gas fireplace yourself. To do this, you will need an industrial heater that runs on gas. To ensure stable and productive operation, it is necessary to replace the portable five-liter cylinder with a propane connection. The structure is mounted on a steel stand with a foil reflector.

Catalyst gas fireplaces using bottled gas

Heaters of this type are suitable for indoor use small sizes, in which, for safety reasons, the use of open fire is prohibited. The design of the fireplace is made of a ribbed aluminum body, a catalyst capsule, and a fan that pumps a mixture of oxygen and propane. The disadvantages include the high cost of the catalyst unit - approximately 21 thousand rubles, with the expectation of operation for 700 - 800 hours.

Advantagesgas fireplaces using bottled gas:

  • Safe operation. Modern fireplaces have a sealed gas combustion chamber, which prevents gas leakage and the penetration of sparks into the heated room.
  • During combustion, propane does not form soot or soot. In addition, the exhaust gas has a low temperature, so the chimney of a gas fireplace can have a simple configuration.
  • Automated combustion process. To start the gas burner for the fireplace into operation, you need to press the button on the control panel or turn it to ignite the firebox, just press the button on the remote control or turn the slider thermostat.
  • Installation of fuel cylinders is possible in any building.
  • Attractive appearance. Fireplaces are made from decorative elements, so it is possible to make a choice that matches the interior of the room.
  • The economic benefits of installing propane gas fireplaces compared to conventional wood-burning stoves, despite the high cost of equipment and fuel.

Installation of gas fireplaces

Manufacturers produce various models heating equipment on gas, but their design is almost identical.

Design elements:

Gas fireplaces are put into operation as follows: the regulator is turned on and the fuel supply begins with automatic ignition. Thus, the propane ignites and continues to burn until it reaches the required temperature in the room. Then the power of the unit is reduced automatically or manually.

Note. In order to choose the optimal gas fireplace model, you need to look at the technical characteristics of the equipment and determine the parameters of the heated room or home.

Type of fuel cell:

  • Bottled gas;
  • Main gas.

This point must be taken into account when purchasing, since fireplaces operating, for example, on bottled gas, are not designed to work with main gas, and vice versa. Marking N denotes models of gas fireplaces that run on natural gas. The P marking means that the equipment is suitable for propane-butane.

Types of gas fireplaces by installation type

  • Built-in gas fireplaces. For installation, use a self-created or ready-made portal. It is made of fire-resistant materials.
  • Outdoor gas fireplace - installed outdoors in gazebos and verandas. Installation of a chimney is not required.
  • Floor-standing gas fireplaces are installed on a prepared stand and connected to the chimney.
  • Wall mounted ones are secured using brackets. Great option for those who have small children or animals.

Fireplaces as a source of heat have become common in private homes for the reason that they perform two functions at once: decorative and the function of heating the room. One of the most popular recently has become a gas fireplace, which can have a fully or partially automated firebox with live fire.

These units are so diverse that you can choose equipment taking into account many factors, including, for example, power, location, appearance, and cost.

Why choose a gas fireplace

Such devices are capable of operating on liquefied and main gas, so their installation is possible in any country house. Consumers are making this choice more and more often for the reason that the convenience of using wood-burning fireplaces can be called questionable, because to use the unit it is necessary to prepare fuel briquettes or firewood, monitor the fireplace, light it, and also worry about preventing a fire.

The efficiency of such units is not so high, because their efficiency is no more than 20%, while the emission of substances into the atmosphere is quite large, because fuel combustion does not occur completely. A gas fireplace is completely devoid of these disadvantages; it is easy to operate, safe and does not require the preparation of fuel.

When choosing the described heating devices, consumers first of all pay attention to the dimensions. Dimensions are sometimes important when everyone square meter areas count. That is why, before going to the store, you need to draw a floor plan to determine the maximum possible size of the fireplace.

To purchase components, experts recommend asking about the location of the rafters and ceiling beams. The height of the room is also important. But you can purchase a gas fireplace without a chimney, then all this data will not be required. On sale you can find several types of fireplaces, which are classified according to the type of installation. Thus, the equipment can be:

  • wall;
  • floor;
  • built-in

In the first case, the firebox has a closed chamber and ventilation ducts. In the second, it is installed on the prepared floor covering. If we are talking about built-in models, then they are installed on a prepared base and covered with cladding or a portal.

Recommendations for choosing a fireplace in terms of location

A gas fireplace using bottled gas has recently become a real bestseller. If you also decide to follow the experience of many consumers and purchase a similar device, then you should also take into account the location of the unit. The fireplace can be wall-mounted, corner, built-in or island. Each of these varieties has its own positive and negative sides.

For example, wall-mounted fireplaces are quite voluminous and will occupy a huge area, so it is better to install them in big houses country type. The hearth will have a chimney and firebox. Such devices are located in hallways and living rooms.

When choosing a corner fireplace, you can install several chairs next to it, which will create a calm and cozy corner. Built-in fireplaces are the most compact, the entire structure will be located inside the wall, and the portal can be decorated independently with various decorative materials.

Alternative solution

When choosing a gas fireplace for your home, you may prefer the island variety, which is intended for rooms with large area. Such structures are open on all sides, but will take up a lot of space. With limited space, they will not become the highlight of the interior. If you want to decorate the room in an original way, then you should choose the island type of gas fireplace, but you should be prepared for the fact that the heat output of such units is not so high.

If you decide to purchase a gas fireplace, you also need to pay attention to its heat consumption. The area that the fireplace can heat will depend on this characteristic. If you do not plan to use the equipment in winter, then you can purchase a less powerful model. In the instructions you can find the heat consumption, which is usually indicated in kilowatts; in this case, the area of the room can be calculated independently.

When ceilings do not exceed 3 m, this value must be multiplied by 10, which will give an approximate area for heating. Thus, for the fireplace, thermal power which is 6.5 kW, the area should be approximately 65 m 2.

When purchasing a gas fireplace, you must also consider average consumption gas For those devices that operate on mains fuel, this parameter is not so important, because natural gas acts as the cheapest type of fuel.

But propane-butane in liquefied form is much more expensive, so you should calculate how long the fireplace can operate on one cylinder. It is important to take into account that the manufacturer indicates the maximum possible value, and if you install the fireplace in decorative mode, gas consumption will decrease by 6 times.

Selection of gas heating equipment based on body material and additional functions

Before purchasing a gas fireplace for your cottage, you should ask what material is used. Those devices whose firebox is made of of stainless steel, however, you will have to pay a little more for such a unit. That is why it is necessary to evaluate your financial capabilities before making a purchase.

It is also important to consider the presence of additional functions, including:

  • automatic adjustment of modes;
  • electric ignition;
  • remote controller remote control;
  • gas control.

These additions make operating the fireplace more pleasant and convenient, but do not have the best effect on the cost. If you are on a budget, it is best to choose a device that comes with options that increase security.

Choosing a fireplace by manufacturer: consumer reviews

You can choose a gas fireplace for your cottage not only taking into account power and appearance, but also taking into account the manufacturer. The most well-known suppliers of this equipment, from the point of view of buyers, are:

  • Faber;
  • Portofino;
  • Napoleon;
  • Italkero Venezia.

As an example of equipment from the first company, we can consider the Faber Fyn 450 model, which customers like due to the presence of a remote control, an electronic igniter and the fact that the equipment can be built-in. Its dimensions are quite compact and amount to 283 x 446 x 500 mm. According to buyers, the power of the device is optimal for heating a room with an area of 32 m2, because it is 3.2 kW. The firebox is based on steel, which attracts many consumers.

If you want to choose a gas fireplace using bottled gas, then you should consider the Italkero Portofino model, which has a square shape with a side of 346 mm. Consumers love it because of its sealed chamber, natural combustion, and one-way installation. Those wishing to choose completely secure system experts advise paying attention to the Napoleon BGD33/BGD34 model, which has a gas control system, zero clearance to the edge of the frame, a realistic combustion picture and a yellow flame. The power is large enough, suitable for heating a room of 50 m2. The equipment has a closed firebox and has a remote control. Buyers emphasize that the efficiency of this unit is quite high and amounts to 81%.

Conclusion

Gas fireplaces for a country house may differ in functionality, power and location. However, it is also important to pay attention to the method of radiation, which can be one-sided, two-sided or three-sided. In the first case, we are talking about the most common devices that are easy to use and allow you to obtain maximum heat transfer by reflecting heat from the walls of the firebox.

The two-way radiation method requires a large volume of air. Such fireplaces heat worse, and their inconvenience lies in the need to protect the space in front of them. Such gas balloon fireplaces look very impressive, like the three-sided ones. The assortment is quite wide - choose!

A fireplace in a country house not only performs a decorative function, but also heats the room. Currently, gas fireplaces for dachas are gaining increasing popularity; their partially or fully automated fireboxes with live fire allow you to successfully heat Vacation home and create a cozy atmosphere. Gas fireplaces can operate on both main and liquefied gas, so their installation is possible in any country house.

The ease of use of classic wood-burning fireplaces is questionable - it is necessary to prepare firewood or fuel briquettes, light the fireplace and constantly monitor it during combustion to avoid fire. In addition, the efficiency of wood-burning fireplaces is low, their efficiency does not exceed 15-20%, and the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere is high due to incomplete combustion of fuel. Gas fireplaces for summer cottages are free from all these disadvantages: they are safe, easy to operate and do not require the preparation of firewood, kindling or constant monitoring.

The design of gas fireplaces determines their efficiency. The firebox of gas fireplaces is usually heat-resistant steel; the walls of the firebox have a ribbed surface, which increases the heat transfer area. Inside the firebox, in its lower part there is gas-burner with automation sensors and piezoelectric element.

Video - Gas fireplaces

In some models, the burner is covered with ceramic heat-resistant false coals or logs - the gas leaving the burner hits the “firewood” and beautifully flows the flame around it, thereby creating the effect of burning wood. The upper part of the firebox forms a smoke collector, which turns into a chimney. The front part is usually closed with doors with heat-resistant glass, providing fire safety, but there are also open models.

The fireplace is controlled either from the panel on the front side or from the remote control. Gas fireplaces with automation are equipped with a controller that regulates combustion, as well as sensors for stopping the gas supply, loss of draft, and flame extinction. In case of any violation of the operating mode, the fireplace turns off, which makes it safe to use. Gas fireplaces must be connected to an electrical outlet or battery to ensure all sensors and the controller are working.

Installation of a gas fireplace for a summer house depends on its type. In this case, it is necessary to comply with the manufacturer’s ventilation requirements and ensure air access to the firebox through a special duct or chimney. It is better to entrust the connection of the fireplace to the main gas to a specialist, because in any case you will have to coordinate its installation with the local gas service. Fireplaces running on liquefied gas can be connected independently.

The chimney is made of materials that are resistant to corrosion and high temperature, usually made of special steel. Ready-made prefabricated chimneys with a layer of thermal insulation are most convenient, thanks to various elements they can be brought out through walls or ceilings and extended to any length.

Choosing a gas fireplace for a summer house

When choosing a gas fireplace, it is necessary to take into account the conditions of its installation and operation. In order not to make a mistake and choose the most suitable model, you must be guided by the following characteristics:

  • floor - the firebox is placed directly on the prepared floor covering;
  • wall-mounted – the firebox has a completely closed chamber With ventilation ducts and simply hangs on the wall;
  • built-in - the firebox is installed on the base and closed with a portal or cladding;
  • outdoor – installed outdoors, for example, in a gazebo. Floor and wall models are the easiest to install and do not require remodeling the walls, making a frame or foundation. To give the fireplace a more aesthetic appearance, such fireboxes are often covered with a homemade or purchased portal. In a house where there are small children or pets, it is more convenient to use a wall-mounted fireplace, hanging it at an inaccessible height. For a built-in fireplace, you need to make a base and frame from non-combustible materials: brick, steel profile, stone. The cladding of such a fireplace is done using decorative brick, terracotta, fireproof tiles. Outdoor gas fireplaces for cottages are the easiest to install and often do not even require connection to a chimney.

  • Heat consumption, or power. The maximum area that a gas fireplace for a summer cottage can heat depends on this characteristic. If you do not plan to use the dacha in winter, you can install a less powerful model. If the manufacturer only indicates the heat consumption of the fireplace in kilowatts, you can calculate the area yourself. If the room height is no more than three meters, this value must be multiplied by 10, and you will get the approximate area of the heated house. For example, for a gas fireplace with a thermal power of 6.5 kW, the room area will be approximately 65 square meters.
  • Gas consumption. For fireplaces running on main gas, this parameter is not particularly important, because natural gas is by far the cheapest fuel. Liquefied propane-butane in cylinders is much more expensive, so you need to calculate how long the fireplace can operate on one cylinder. It should be taken into account that the manufacturer indicates the maximum value; when the fireplace is operating in decorative mode, gas consumption is 5-7 times lower.
  • Case material. Fireplaces with a firebox made of stainless steel are more durable and reliable, but their price is higher. Assess your financial capabilities before purchasing.
  • Additional functions. Electric ignition, gas control, automatic regulation modes, remote control - these functions make using the fireplace convenient and enjoyable, but, again, affect its price. If you're on a budget, it's best to choose options that increase the safety of your fireplace.

Installation requires a pre-drawn plan and installation manual supplied with the fireplace. According to the plan, markings are made at the installation site and on the floors, after which installation begins.

Gas fireplaces are a worthy choice for heating a summer house, because they are economical, reliable and safe.
