Installation of a chimney in a frame house. Fire safety and equipment startup

The need to vent a chimney through a wall arises when installing heating equipment in an already built house. Proper selection of the design, material, and trajectory of the chimney becomes a guarantee of effective heating of the premises. Also, an important component of the flawless operation of the heating system is compliance with the installation algorithm established on the basis of practical experience and regulatory documents.

Functionality and design features

Range optimal length chimney is 5 - 10 meters. An indicator below the minimum value makes traction difficult, and a pipe longer than the designated 10 meters will provoke excessive combustion, increasing fuel consumption.

Since the smoothness of the internal planes of the chimney makes it possible to increase its durability due to a slight accumulation of soot, consumers are increasingly choosing a single-layer steel pipe, which successfully replaces brick counterparts. The installation of the chimney is simplified if it is used modern design of two nested one inside the other steel pipes with an insulating layer of stone wool between them.

This system has proven its practicality, since no negative condensation forms inside, and the outer surfaces receive slight heating.

When making a chimney outlet through a wall with its subsequent installation outside the house, it is necessary to consider the design of the protective box. It is advisable to make it brick, or use plasterboard, supplemented with fire-resistant thermal insulation.

Three-layer chimneys, the inner cylindrical pipe of which is made of ceramics, followed by a thermal insulation layer and outer blocks made of lightweight concrete, also show high performance.

Basic installation steps

When installing a smoke exhaust pipe through a wall, it is necessary to follow a certain sequence.

  • In the place of the wall where the pipe is planned to pass, there should be no internal communications and wires.
  • Markings are made on the wall and a hole of the required size is prepared.
  • The pipe is installed and fixed in the prepared hole. The passage in the wall is lined with fireproof insulating material, and the top is covered with a casing or plastered.
  • The chimney is connected to the heating device by joining a three-section elbow with a tee using a transition element.

Chimney passage in frame house

The fastening elements intended for fixing the chimney to the wall have a pitch of 60–100 cm. Once the pipe has been brought to the design height, a cone-shaped element is attached to the top to protect against possible ingress of debris. In the gap between the wall and the chimney, a layer of mineral heat insulator, for example, basalt wool, is attached. The top of the chimney is also insulated and sheathed with a casing made of fire-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials.

Features of working with wooden walls

Arranging a chimney in wooden house, it is necessary to take into account that its installation here has some features.

When making a passage through a wall, you need to additionally protect the pipe by covering it with fire-resistant bricks or asbestos. This measure is mandatory according to fire safety standards, and it will also prevent wood fibers from drying out from heating at the point of contact with the chimney.

When starting installation, we select chimneys from a range of three-layer products, abandoning the single-layer steel chimney, which gets very hot. It is recommended to design a horizontal section of short length.

Vertical part in optimal option should be level without turns. The chimney design must have dampers to regulate the intensity of combustion. If all requirements are met, the heating device will function efficiently and in a safe manner.

If the wooden structure is finished with siding, then a gap to the chimney of ≥ 15 cm is provided. This is due to the fact that the temperature range regulated by manufacturers for this finishing material, ranges from minus 50 degrees to plus fifty degrees. The entire passage is protected by fire-resistant heat-insulating material.

When venting the chimney through the wall, it is recommended to orient it towards the gable side so as not to make additional holes in the roof. If the heating device in the house is located in such a way that the pipe can only be removed from the side where the roof slope is located, then a support stand may be needed. The chimney is fixed to it using sliding fasteners.

For boilers with forced draft, it is possible to install simply a horizontal pipe, which should be routed through a passage in the wall in the same way as chimneys that also have a vertical part.

During the construction process, you can install a convenient chimney design in the wall, which is a shaft lined with brick. A pipe is placed here, attached to heating device. This scheme saves a lot of space.

If the installation of a universal chimney in the wall is carried out in the partition between rooms, then it becomes an additional source of light comfortable warmth. To connect correctly heating equipment, it is necessary to make a sufficiently spacious passage in the shaft wall and install a pipe, joining its horizontal and vertical parts. Rock wool is usually used for insulation.

The upper cut of the pipe, coming out at a distance of one and a half meters, measured from the ridge, should rise above it by 0.5 meters. If the distance is one and a half meters or more, then the pipe is made at the level of the ridge.

Stove pipe with outlet through the wall - required element any heating device. But not many people think at the construction stage, where it will take place, and how to arrange it correctly. And after building a house, it is not always easy to build a structure for removing smoke. The article will tell you how the pipe should pass through the wall.

When placing a chimney inside a wall, you can hide unnecessary communications; this is a more correct structure, but outdoor installation The system has many positive aspects:

  • Higher fire safety. Sometimes the soot accumulated in the pipe ignites, usually at a temperature (+1200ºC). Only ceramics can withstand such heat. If a pipe embedded in a wall heats up to this temperature, a fire is most likely inevitable. Given the same situation with the external structure, the consequences will not be so catastrophic.
  • No smoke. Over time, the smoke and gas exhaust system becomes unusable and smoke begins to seep through the cracks and then enter the room, which can be avoided by placing the channel outside.
  • Useful space is saved. When the chimney is located inside, it will occupy some living space.
  • Installation can be carried out after completion of construction.
  • There is no need to interfere with the integrity of the roof covering.
  • To improve traction, it is possible to extend the pipe to a greater height.

There are also a number of disadvantages of such a structure.

These include:

  • Quite a high windage at a considerable height.
  • The need to use additional fastening material.
  • It is necessary to properly insulate the pipes.
  • High heat loss.
  • Sometimes the type of chimney does not match the style of the building.

Chimney installation rules

It is necessary to remove combustion products from the furnace for several reasons.

Chief among them:

  • Life and health of people.
  • Efficient operation of the furnace or boiler.

Advice: It is necessary to organize the withdrawal correctly carbon monoxide, poisoning with it can even lead to death.

  • Any fuel does not burn without access to oxygen, which enters through the smoke channel.

There are several rules for installing chimneys:

  • There should be no communications where the channel passes.
  • The areas where the chimney passes through the wall are covered with a protective casing or plastered after first filling the space with heat-insulating material.
  • The chimney fixation is installed in increments of 60 millimeters.
  • This design usually uses dual-circuit systems that are better protected from mechanical stress. In this case, it is necessary to install a valve that allows you to adjust the draft.

What is needed to install an external chimney

To install a chimney you will need:

  • Bulgarian.
  • Electric drill with a set of drills of different diameters.
  • Riveter.
  • The sealant is heat-resistant.
  • Aluminum tape.
  • Clamps for fixing the outlet pipe.
  • Corners.

The main elements for installing an external chimney are shown in the photo.

An external smoke exhaust pipe is installed for:

  • Fireplace (see).
  • Furnaces (see).
  • Heating boiler.
  • Potbelly stove pipe through a brick wall.

In addition to the heating device itself, to install the device you will need:

  • Bends.

Tip: When constructing a pipe, you should take into account the angle of deflection, which is necessary for the correct direction of smoke movement.

  • Welding of tap elements must be performed with tungsten electrodes. The number of elements depends on the design and length of the chimney.
  • If necessary, install:
  1. dampers that are mounted in pipes, transitions, bends or tees, which depends on the customer’s wishes;
  2. viewing windows.

Tip: Dampers should be installed so that they do not come into contact with the walls of a pipe made of of stainless steel. Otherwise, the damper will jam due to exposure to high temperature.

  • Tee stand. To make it you can use metal pipe square section made of stainless steel, which is attached to the wall with dowels.

Tip: When making a stand for a tee, you should choose the correct distance between the wall and the chimney.

  • When installing a chimney through a wall, heat-insulated tees made of stainless steel are installed. They are used when connecting a heating device to a chimney. Further, during operation, these elements will be used for cleaning, inspection and removal of existing condensate.
  • Tubes for removing condensate and windows for inspection are installed in the lower or side part of the tee.
  • After assembling all the elements, in accordance with the requirements set by the instructions for compliance with fire safety rules, the inspection window door must be “seated” on silicone.

Tip: Tees can be made in one piece, prefabricated or through. They should be connected at different angles.

  • To build a chimney, fasteners are used, which are special brackets; you can make them yourself from metal tubes made of stainless steel.
  • The external chimney must be covered with a layer of heat-insulating material, which is usually chosen mineral wool, and then the thermally insulated chimney is placed in a protective casing made of galvanized or stainless steel or other materials.
  • To install an external chimney through a wall, additional reinforced fasteners may be required:
  1. for installation of installation and unloading cups;
  2. so that the structure can withstand lateral loads.

The top of the structure is a heat-insulated pipe in a protective casing. Its length should be over one meter. For it, the upper caps are made of stainless steel.

How to install a chimney through a wall

Installing a chimney through a wall must comply with certain conditions:

  • In the place where the chimney goes, radiator pipes should not pass through the wall or other communications.
  • You need to start installation by connecting the pipe to the heating boiler. The chimney through the wall is made at an angle of 90°.
  • The next part of the structure is placed perpendicular to this element. A condenser tank is installed in its lower part, and the main mass of the chimney is connected at the top.
  • Pipe passages through walls are sealed. The best way to do this is to use thermal insulation materials. It is recommended to plaster the exit and entry areas of the pipe or cover it with a protective casing.
  • Using corner connections, sections are constructed that take into account architectural features Houses.
  • Each joint must be secured with a clamp.
  • Clamps for the chimney to the wall are installed in one step.

Advice: Fastening elements must be installed in increments of no more than a meter. The optimal distance is 0.6 meters.

  • After the structure is constructed, a cap is installed above the chimney neck.
  • The pipe is insulated from the wall of the building, for example, with basalt fiber. This is necessary so that when heated, the chimney does not transfer some of its heat to the wall and thereby destroy it.

How a chimney is mounted through a wooden wall

The peculiarity of arranging the passage of a chimney through wooden wall– the pipe must be lined with fireproof material, such as:

  • Asbestos.
  • Brick.

This is necessary to:

  • Prevent the wood from drying out.
  • Follow fire safety regulations.

These rules allow you to use the chimney for a long time, and the cost of subsequent repairs will be minimal.

Installation of a chimney inside the house is carried out using double-circuit chimney systems.

Wherein:

  • The best option is vertical arrangement a chimney consisting of one straight long pipe, without any geometric deviations.
  • As part of such a system:
  1. damper, used to regulate draft in the chimney;
  2. the pipe itself. Its neck is covered with a protective cap.
  • Pipe fastening elements are placed in increments of one meter.
  • The passage of the chimney through the metal tile is carefully sealed with a protective casing, which will prevent moisture from entering the attic of the house.

All the nuances of the pipe outlet for the chimney, how the cable pipe is routed through the wall, are shown in the video in this article.

Installing a chimney is a very responsible procedure that requires good preparation. The functionality and efficiency of the entire heating system depends on the correct installation of the chimney.

One of the main components in the heating system is the smoke exhaust channel. Installing a chimney in a private house is a rather complex and important process, since proper operation Not only the proper functioning of the heating device depends, but also the health of the residents of the house.

Installation of a boiler chimney in a private house

The functions of the chimney are to remove harmful products that are released during the combustion of fuel along with smoke, so it is impossible to allow at least part of these substances to leak into the room.

Another, no less important, factor in the arrangement of a chimney is its fire safety. It is necessary to ensure its correct passage through the floors and roof, and also to isolate it from walls built of flammable materials. By following all the rules when constructing this heating system, you can ensure its excellent operation for many years, naturally, carrying out annual maintenance.

Everything needs to be done so as not to get further problems with regulatory organizations, and also feel completely safe, and for this it is worth studying the mandatory norms and rules for the design and operation of chimneys of heating devices. This is especially true for brick stoves and fireplaces.

  • The oven must have its own foundation. This condition is important because this structure should not depend on other foundations of the house. In the event of shrinkage or other unforeseen movements of the soil, the distortion of the general foundation may lead to a violation of the masonry of not only the stove, but also the chimney. The appearance of seemingly minor and unnoticeable cracks can pose a serious threat to the health of residents.
  • The blower hole must be at a height of at least ten centimeters from the floor, as it must provide a sufficient flow of oxygen, thereby ensuring normal combustion of fuel and draft in the chimney.
  • For fire safety purposes, the stove must be located at least 25 centimeters from the building walls made of flammable materials. And the best option would be to insulate the walls with heat-resistant materials.
  • When installing internal structure stoves, where the chimney with smoke exhaust channels actually begins, it is necessary to strictly follow the layout of the rows. Blocking at least one of the channel openings can threaten the house with smoke with all the ensuing consequences.
  • The stove body itself should be 35-40 centimeters below the ceiling. Next comes the chimney pipe.
  • It is very important to arrange the correct cutting of the chimney passage through the attic floor. Brick protrusions should have steps seven centimeters high before entering the ceiling and after exiting the groove in the attic.
  • If the attic floor is insulated with flammable insulation materials, a sand layer of at least five to seven centimeters must be laid on top of them.
  • When fireproofing in the attic, the distance from the inner wall of the chimney to combustible materials must be at least 50 cm. For this purpose, the chimney skirt is laid out, which is located directly in the attic floor.
  • The wall thickness of a brick chimney pipe should be 12–15 centimeters.
  • If the pipe comes out on the roof on at a distance of more than three meters from the ridge horizontally, its height should be no more than 10 degrees along the slope from the horizon. If the pipe is located at a shorter distance, it should rise above the ridge by at least half a meter.
  • These rules are provided by fire safety services and must be strictly observed.

Chimney for metal stoves and boilers

Chimneys for cast iron stoves are simpler in structure and come in two types:

  • The first of them, shown in the figure, is more complicated than the second in execution, since it passes inside the building through all the ceilings. The procedures for arranging it in the roof and waterproofing the seams around the pipe will be especially labor-intensive.

But the advantage of this chimney is that it retains more heat in the rooms and that it can also heat the second floor or attic through which the pipe will pass.

  • The second option for the chimney metal furnace is a structure that runs almost entirely along the street. Only part of it remains inside the house, which is fixed horizontally. This is a branch section from the heating device, which can be straight or in the form of a so-called elbow. It exits through the wall onto the street and enters a vertical chimney that rises parallel to the wall. Such a device is safer, and the pipe will not take up excess space in the room. Its arrangement will not cause trouble with waterproofing on the roof and its passage through the ceilings.

But when making such a design, the pipe for it must be selected with a thicker thermal insulation layer, which can reach a thickness of up to 10 cm. Without such insulation, the smoke in the pipe will quickly cool down, the draft will decrease, and condensation may also form, which is extremely undesirable for the stove .

Parts for metal chimney

If earlier in order to make a decent chimney you had to tinker a lot or spend a considerable amount on ordering a tinsmith, today manufacturers of ventilation and heating systems release finished parts various configurations.

Such chimneys are available in different diameters, heights and insulation thicknesses. In addition, other accessories necessary for installing a smoke exhaust system on the wall and protecting it from moisture getting inside are also sold. An approximate list of parts intended for this purpose:

  • Pipes of different lengths, equipped with special locking grooves for fastening them to other structural parts.
  • Metal corner transitions made at different angles.
  • Crimp clamps in various sizes.
  • Mounting brackets
  • Floor, wall and ceiling stands and pipe passages.
  • Tees also made at different angles.
  • Deflectors, fungi, spark arresters and thermal fungi.
  • Connecting elbows with the required angle range.
  • Other small parts required for chimney installation.

Important components in the chimney device

It is very important to correctly design the most complex components of the chimney - its passages through the attic, interfloor ceiling, roof, and also through the wall if the main pipe runs entirely along the street.

Interfloor and attic floors

The most difficult thing is to correctly route pipes through ceilings, walls, and roofs.

The chimney passage in the ceiling, made of wood, is framed with special pipes that isolate it from flammable materials to prevent them from igniting. The pipe has a larger diameter than the pipe, so when they are connected, a gap is formed, which also helps protect against overheating.

Chimney passage through the ceiling

There should be a distance between the chimney and the ceiling in which it is necessary to place foil or asbestos non-combustible material, the thickness of which should be at least 7-9 cm. The foil insulator is laid with foil inside.

The pipe is solid. Place of passage through wooden ceiling covered with a metal flange

It is important to remember that at the point of passage in the ceiling, the pipe cannot have joints, but must be continuous.

The same thing - on the floor

If a pipe is intended to pass through a room on the top floor, then a casing should be arranged around it, with holes for ventilation through which hot air will flow into the room. They are usually drilled out from the top and bottom of the casing. Such protection is needed in order not to accidentally get burned by very hot pipe while firing the stove.

On the ceiling and floor of the second floor, where the pipe passes through the ceilings, metal parts of the flange pipe remain, which cover the flammable materials of the floor and ceiling.

Passage through the wall

The passage of the chimney pipe through the wall is designed in the same way as through the ceiling, using special pipes placed on the chimney, which will help isolate flammable materials from high temperatures. Also, the section of the pipe that will be located in the wall is wrapped in a heat-resistant material with a thickness of at least 7-10 cm.

Roof passage

The most difficult place is the pipe penetration through the roof. He demands special attention in work, since the safety of the sheathing and insulation from external moisture, as well as the general fire safety of the house, will depend on it.

To do this, waterproofing is installed around the outside of the pipe using a special tape or a “penetration” on the flange, which is secured with adhesive-sealant and screwed on top with self-tapping screws.

Particular attention to thermal insulation of the roof structure

To prevent overheating of the sheathing, the pipe must be wrapped in heat-resistant material and pass through a metal panel from the inside of the roof.

The final stage of chimney installation is to install an umbrella on top of it, which will protect against dirt and water getting inside.

Conditions for normal operation

The design should:

  • effectively remove gaseous waste from fuel combustion;
  • be safe and comfortable for home;
  • have good traction;
  • withstand high temperatures;
  • be protected from moisture and condensation;
  • be resistant to external aggressive environments.

Chimneys can have a square or cylindrical shape, the latter is considered optimal, since it is less susceptible to the accumulation of soot and soot.

Other parameters that are also indicated by building codes:

  • alloy steel parts made for the installation of chimneys are distinguished by anti-corrosion qualities and are thick in in 0.5 cm;
  • the diameter of the pipe should be the same size as the furnace pipe or be slightly larger;
  • chimney arranged for brick oven, is equipped with pockets that are located in the lower part of the smoke exhaust channels and have a depth of 20-25 centimeters. Doors are installed on them, through which soot deposits are removed;
  • a metal chimney cannot have more than 3 turns;
  • the turning radius of a metal chimney cannot be greater than the diameter of the pipe;
  • the pipe must have a height of at least five meters.

All these conditions will help create normal draft in the chimney and effective removal of combustion products hazardous to health.

A short video tutorial on installing a chimney in a private house

It must be remembered that the choice of a chimney does not depend on its external data, but on the stove on which it will be installed, as well as on the fuel used and other heating parameters. Therefore, before purchasing or constructing a chimney, you must consult a specialist.

And one more warning - for some inexperienced builders there are an abundance of requirements for arrangement stove heating and chimneys - in particular, may seem like unnecessary “nit-picking”, which you can, if you wish, ignore. Believe me, these rules were developed by life itself, based on centuries of experience and careful engineering calculations. It’s sad, but more than once their neglect has been paid for with human lives.

The installation of a stove chimney through a wall is not at all complicated. But there are some peculiarities and nuances here, and we will look at how to install a chimney through a wall in this article. Also in the video in this article and photos you can see the most significant areas of the work and get the necessary recommendations.

Installation through the wall can be different, distinctive feature horizontal chimney lies in its effective heating. It is simple to describe the entire heating system: first, combustion products rise upward, and then, thanks to the area of the chimney, good heating is ensured.

Attention: It should be remembered that if a chimney is installed through a wall, sharp corners should in no case be allowed, because they are sources of turbulence.

It is important to pay attention to the thickness of the seams. Indeed, in case of the slightest discrepancy, the internal section changes. And, of course, it is necessary to ensure that the pipe is not clogged with soot, as this can lead to poor draft.

All work will look in the following order:

Determining the chimney model This indicator will depend on the structure itself. After all, the insulation system will be different. And the height will be determined depending on the location of the unit itself.
Making calculations Here we need to take into account the height of the pipe and the number of connections. We also look at transitions. After all, you will need to take components for this.
We buy a chimney It is better to take a chimney made of stainless steel, rather than just one coated with chrome. After all, the coating will quickly peel off and you will have to replace the pipe.
Making the installation The installation system is basically the same. The only difference may be in the pipe insulation. On our website you will find detailed instructions on fastening and installation of each type.

Installation steps

Installation of a coaxial chimney and any other through the wall is done in stages. There are, of course, peculiarities in the fastening of different systems.

But there is something that unites all systems:

  • The first stage involves coupling the pipe to the boiler, and then the installation of the structure follows. Before you begin installation, mark the location, then make holes through which the pipe will pass.
  • After you have completed the first step, proceed to installing the pipe. You should proceed from pre-made holes in the opening, and you should also take into account the fact that it must be insulated with mineral wool.
  • After this, it is necessary to connect the chimney together with heating device. To do this, take a 90 degree elbow and connect it to the tee.
  • What to do if you need to change the direction of the chimney? To do this, take a tee and use a bracket as a fixation. It can be easily removed if the need for cleaning arises.
  • After this, it is necessary to install the gas exhaust pipe on the wall, for which it is best to use fastenings with an interval of up to 2 meters.

The final step will be to bring the entire structure out through the roof overhang.

Attention: It is extremely important to remember that in the place where the structure will be laid out, under no circumstances should pipe elements be connected to each other.

At the end of the work, install a special umbrella over the structure, which will prevent precipitation from getting inside the chimney.

Specifics of installing a chimney through a wooden wall

Installing a chimney through a wall in a wooden house requires a careful approach, because wood is quite flammable. For example, installing a chimney pipe from a heater into a wall does not provide for such fire safety rules.

So:

  • If you want to install a pipe through a wooden wall, be sure to insulate it with non-combustible material.
  • All this is done based on fire safety rules, which guarantee the efficient operation of the gas exhaust system. Following the rules prevents regular calls to repair departments.
  • Most the best option– perform a vertical installation, passing it through a wooden wall. This option involves the use of a perfectly straight pipe, as well as adjustment of the draft, which occurs due to the gate.
  • To install the structure, make equal intervals, and cover the top with a special cap.

Attention: Do not forget that installing a gas exhaust system is an important procedure for which you must carefully prepare. The more thoroughly you prepare, the more efficiently the entire system will work.

All work can be done with your own hands. the device will depend on the material used. But there are also recommendations from professionals on this topic and it’s worth listening to them.

  • Before purchasing and installing a combustion product exhaust system, you need to find out at what power the heating device operates. It should also be used as a starting point when choosing the pipe diameter.
  • It is necessary to calculate the length of the installation in order to ultimately obtain good traction. Without it, the design will not work as efficiently. Remember that the chimney through the wall should not be too long or short.

  • If the chimney is long, smoke and soot can enter the house, and if it is short, there is a possibility of rapid fuel consumption. If the draft is too high, the chimney loses its efficiency, since not only gases “leave” the room, but also heat.
  • In order to prevent such cases, professionals advise doing everything installation work, follow all the rules. The chimney connection to the boiler must be made using an elbow, tee or pipe.
  • If you are installing a heating device in an already finished house, then remember to install the chimney in the classic way very difficult. In this case, it is best not only to install pipes on the front of the building.
  • The entire structure must be insulated, since in case of strong heating the wall may collapse.

Isolation can be achieved in two ways:

  • Using a wall passage unit(pipes have a diameter that is higher than the main one, and also have installed plates for protection);
  • Filling the space between the wall and the installation with mineral wool.
  • If your home has bearing wall, then installing a chimney will not take much effort and expense. You will not encounter difficulties in wiring the chimney through the roof and interfloor ceilings. In addition, installing a chimney does not take much time.

Attention: Your task is to correct selection parameters of the chimney and in the connection of the structure. If you make even minor mistakes in the installation process, the operation of the chimney will be ineffective and, moreover, dangerous.

The instructions for the pipe itself will tell you how to arrange the walls in the bathhouse. After all, they come in different configurations. The price will depend on this. But if you carefully read the recommendations and decide on the installation system, then the work will be done efficiently.

It was decided to make a fireplace, equip a boiler room, it is necessary to provide for the exit of smoke from the building: the chimney is installed strictly according to building codes. There should be no risk of smoke entering the rooms. This is unsafe for people's health and life.

Types of chimneys

In a frame house, it is possible to install two types of chimneys - external and internal. The internal one is mounted directly in the building. Its installation is not always convenient. The main disadvantage of this chimney is that it reduces the area of the room. Also, a pipe passing through all floors of the cottage can spoil the interior. It will have to be decorated somehow so that it fits into the design of the premises.

The external chimney runs along the façade. It is brought outside through the wall of the building. Advantages of this type of chimney:

  • safety for people, there is no risk of smoke entering the room;
  • low price on installations;
  • ease of decoration, you can use inexpensive materials to cover the chimney. If desired, you can leave the pipes open.

The only disadvantage of an external chimney is that it cannot be made perfectly straight; you will have to provide for bypassing the roof overhangs. But chimney manufacturers produce not only straight pipes, but also those with bends. Therefore, the structure is made of pipes different shapes, which makes it easy to bypass overhangs.

Materials for creating a chimney

Metal

A practical option for a chimney is metal. Its advantages:

  • low cost;
  • low weight of the structure;
  • ease of installation.

A metal chimney consists of several parts:

  • an internal pipe through which smoke passes;
  • thermal insulation that protects the inner pipe from frost in winter;
  • outer pipe, which is decorative. It is made of stainless steel, so it does not collapse under the influence of dampness and precipitation.

Brick

The external brick chimney looks solid. But its construction is complex, so its assembly must be carried out by specialists. The advantages of this type of chimney are reliability and aesthetics. Flaws:

  • heavy weight, which will place a serious load on the foundation of the building;
  • gradual destruction of brick under the influence of condensate and combustion products;
  • high construction cost.

Chimney installation location

If a chimney is installed inside a building, it is better to install it in the corner of the room. Then it will become less noticeable, and it will be easier for residents to arrange the interior of the room.

It is better to install the external chimney from the end frame house. In this case, it will not violate the design of the cottage facade.

How to install a chimney outside

When building an external chimney, it is necessary to provide a hole in the wall through which the pipe will be led out to the street. The hole must be made carefully; it should be slightly larger in size than the diameter of the chimney. It is necessary to leave space between the wall and the pipe for installing thermal insulation. It must be laid so that cold air from the street does not penetrate into the gaps between the frame and the chimney.

If an internal chimney is installed, then a hole is provided in the roof of the frame house. Where the structure passes through the interfloor ceilings, thermal insulation is also installed to prevent frosty air from entering the room.

The upper part of the chimney is closed with a lid. It must be installed so that smoke can freely penetrate through it. The cover is installed to prevent contamination and precipitation from entering the structure. If a blockage occurs, smoke will not escape through the pipe into the street, but will accumulate in the house, and this is unsafe for its residents.
