Money tree: description of the plant, features of care. Secrets of caring for a money tree at home or how to grow a lush bush

Crassula, or "Money Tree", is a special plant that is credited with amazing properties. This indoor tree is said to be able to improve well-being and “attract” wealth.

Is it a myth or truth, you can only verify it personally by planting this amazing indoor flower at home or in the office.

The scientific name of the Crassula - Crassula - comes from the Latin word "crassus". Translated, this means “thick”, and this name is not surprising, since the leaves and stems of this plant are definitely not “thin”. But where and when the magical connection between Crassula and financial flows arose still remains a mystery. But, one way or another, many people get a fat woman precisely for the purpose of attracting money.

How to care for a money tree at home?

Even if you have no experience at all in growing indoor plants, caring for a fat plant will not be difficult. This is one of the most unpretentious, easy-to-care plants that does not require any special conditions content, nor specific temperature conditions.

How to plant a money tree correctly?

Crassula should choose a small, wide pot and be sure to provide drainage. Crassula is undemanding to soil. The main thing is that the soil is not too loose. For better adaptation, the sprout can be covered with a cap or glass jar.

Watering "Crassula"

You don't need to water very often. Even in summer, watering once or twice a week is sufficient. But at the same time it is necessary to monitor the condition of the soil. If it is dry, this does not mean that the succulent does not have enough water. The bottom layer may be wet and the roots will begin to rot. To avoid this, do not overdo it with watering and be sure to drain the water from the pan.

In the cold season, watering should be minimal: in the fall - once, maximum twice a week, in winter period– once or twice a month. If the plant is in cool conditions at this time, then it does not need to be watered at all.

Feeding a houseplant

Twice a year, the fat woman must be fed (in autumn and spring). At the beginning of spring, nitrogen complexes are used for feeding, and in autumn period– fertilizers, potassium and fluorine-containing. It is important not to overdo it with the concentration of the composition so that the tree does not get burned. Additionally, you can feed Crassula monthly with special liquid fertilizers.

How to transplant "Crassula"?

The tree should only be replanted when the pot has become too crowded. As a rule, such a need arises approximately once every three years. The ideal time for this is the beginning of May. In the pot you need to make a drainage at least two centimeters high, add soil, carefully place the tree in the center, and add soil. After transplantation, the plant is watered, and the soil is replenished as it settles.

Money Tree blooms quite rarely. To achieve flowering of Crassula, during the warm period it must be kept outside (balcony, veranda), avoiding direct sun. In winter, it is better to keep the flowerpot in a cool room, where the temperature is a maximum of 10-12 degrees. Crassula also needs to be protected from sudden temperature changes.

Wipe the leaves regularly and make sure there is clean air in the room. Promotes flowering and correct formation trunk

Do-it-yourself propagation

The money tree can be propagated by cuttings, leaves or seeds. At home, it is easiest to use the first two methods, since propagation by seeds is quite troublesome. But the leaves and petioles usually take root well even without special preparation. Cuttings are usually immediately planted in the substrate, and the leaves are kept for some time in boiled water, changing it periodically so that the roots germinate.

Diseases and treatment of the money tree

Despite its unpretentiousness, Crassula may die due to improper care. One of the main reasons for plant death is overwatering. At the same time, the roots begin to rot, the leaves turn yellow and fall off. You can suspect excess moisture if the leaves begin to lose their elasticity. Then you need to reduce watering. If the root system begins to rot, you need to remove the damaged roots and replant the plant. But when the base of the trunk is damaged, it is no longer possible to save the fat plant.

Also, although this rarely happens, Crassula can suffer from fungal infection. At the same time, spots appear on the leaves of Crassula - white or brown. Special preparations will save the money tree from fungus. It is also easy to get rid of pests with the help of drugs. But if black circles appear, these are sunburns. In this case, the money tree needs to be rearranged or shaded.

Signs associated with the money tree

It is believed that in order for a money tree to “work” and bring good luck, it must be grown correctly. The main “trick” in turning a fat woman into a talisman is “pedigree.” The leaf for planting should be picked from a tree growing in a profitable place, and this should be done secretly. If none of your wealthy friends has Crassula, look for the plant in some successful establishment (bank, expensive restaurant). You cannot take leaves from Crassulas in a hospital or similar places.

It is advisable to place this plant talisman in accordance with the rules of Feng Shui in the wealth sector. The ideal place is a window that faces southeast. To enhance the effect, you can bury coins or gold in the pot, and when the tree grows, tie a red ribbon to the trunk.

You should not give a financial tree and it is advisable not to accept it as a gift. It is also not recommended to buy mature plant– you need to grow it yourself. If there is nowhere to pick a leaf, buy a tiny fat plant for a small fee.

To make the plant grow faster, talk to it about money more often - and it will certainly attract wealth, additional finances and well-being to your home.

Drop a penny into the soil and after a while, as the tree grows, you will receive financial profit and good luck in money matters.

The tree of life gets its name because of the amazing vitality of a succulent representative of the flora in dry unfavorable conditions in a natural environment.

Tree propagation and planting

To plant a money tree, you need to find a leaf or cutting, or, as a last resort, buy seeds. Of course, the plant will form faster from a leaf. To do this, cut a leaf or leaf cutting from a healthy bush.

There are two ways:

During the first 3 years, the plant gives significant growth, so it will have to be replanted regularly, changing pots to wider and deeper ones for the development of the root system.

By the third year, you need to transplant the money tree into a heavy, wide pot: the root system is not always able to hold big plant independently, the containers often turn over, injuring the Crassula and causing inconvenience to the owners. To do this, the barrel is removed from old container, clean the main soil from the roots and plant it in a new prepared pot.

Crassula can be propagated within a couple of years, when planting material will reach full size.

It is advisable to transplant in the spring during the period of active awakening flora, a living tree can be propagated in spring and summer.

Soil preparation

To plant and replant a plant, you need loose soil close to the ground. natural environment a habitat. For this you can purchase ready mixture for cacti at a botanical store or make it yourself:

  1. Deciduous soil - 3 parts.
  2. Turf – 1 part.

  4. Coarse sand without dust - 1 part.
  5. For loosening, birch coals or brick chips and expanded clay granules are placed.

It is advisable to plant a young shoot in soil prepared according to the given recipe; for an adult, the proportions can be adjusted, and the amount of turf can be doubled.

Before planting the plant in the soil, you need to correctly arrange the layers in the pot:

  1. 1-2 layers of expanded clay are poured onto the bottom.
  2. Lay the prepared soil to half or 2/3 of the volume.
  3. Crassula tree or another variety of it is planted.
  4. Add soil and press down the top layer.

The planted flower must be watered.

How to care for a plant

Watering mode

The money tree - the Crassula - accumulates moisture and holds it for quite a long time, therefore it does not need abundant soil moisture.

How to water the fat plant:

  • In summer, you need to water the tree no more than 2-3 times a week, but you should still determine the amount of moisture based on the condition of the soil. If the surface of the earth dries out, then adding water is required. It is important not to turn the soil into a swamp.
  • In winter, there is almost no need to water the plant; the tree is dormant. Regime – 1 time per month. Of course, if the pot is placed above the radiator, then the humidification mode is summer.

Dust removal

The money tree, Crassula, has dense leaves that normally receive dust. To remove it, use a damp, soft cloth. Spraying in the case of wide leaves may not be effective. Some gardeners practice shower procedures for the tree of life: place the pot in the bathtub and spray it with water from the shower head. At the same time, you should not direct the streams towards the pot, so as not to over-moisten the soil.

Lighting and temperature

To make caring for the tree easier, you need to place it in favorable conditions life. The plant loves the sun, but in moderation - it is better to place the pot on the western, eastern or adjacent sides. The southern direction gives too intense radiation, from which green leaves burn and turn brown. In the north there is not enough light.

After winter, you need to accustom the plant to the sun gradually, exposing it to the sunny side in doses.

You can grow a money tree quickly only in comfortable temperature conditions:

  • In summer – +20–22 ˚C;
  • In winter, during hibernation - not lower than +70 ˚C.

In summer, the tree can be taken out onto the plot or onto the balcony - it loves fresh air. When there is significant cold weather, the pot must be brought into the house.

Feeding

Another rule from the series “how to care for a money tree” is timely fertilization of the soil. The plant is unpretentious and does not require frequent interventions. Still, cactus mixtures sold in floriculture stores will help improve the condition of the soil. They are used in summer period according to the instructions. In winter, fertilizer is not required.

Crown molding

Often the tree is formed unevenly, some branches develop quickly, others slowly. To prevent warping, the weak sides are pinched into 2 sheets, and the growth of a new shoot is activated at this point. Molding is carried out in the spring-summer period so that new shoots have time to lay flowering buds.

Flowering indoor tree

Probably few people have seen the money tree bloom. Many novice flower growers are sure that Crassula is not at all flowering plant, but that's not true. The photo below shows the beauty of the tree in its blooming state.

Crassula flowers are white and pink, shaped like a star. They are collected in loose panicles and are located at the ends of young shoots.

Flowering is possible only in adults over 10 years old; young plants do not have this trait. Blooming begins in the autumn-winter period, when the plant prepares for dormancy.

A living tree blooms for 2–3 months; as the flowers fade, they are removed so that seeds do not form if this is not required.

The plant can bloom only if simple rules of care are fully observed with comprehensive watering, sufficient sunlight and fertilizing. If Crassula feels good, she will definitely let you know about it.

After flowering for the remaining winter period, the tree should be removed to rest in a dark place until spring.

Money tree care

Gardeners often have a question: how to care for a money tree? Houseplant being watered doesn't like flooding. But simple watering can also cause the roots to begin to rot and the leaves to quickly wither.

For good drainage of moisture into the tray, at the bottom of the pot you need make small holes. When making a pot for Crassula, be sure to place drainage on the bottom. Watering with regular tap water is prohibited. If you have no other sources, then the water must be well defended.

You must also remember to periodically wipe the leaves of the money tree with a damp cloth and spray them with water from a spray bottle. It is best to take a warm shower once a week. IN winter time This “washing” can be done once a month.

There must be water room temperature. It is necessary to ensure that water does not get on the ground. To make this task easier, you can cover the soil in the pot with regular polyethylene. It is forbidden to take a wet crassula to its place. It is necessary to allow the moisture to drain a little.

To avoid problems with watering, you do not need to place the money tree pot under the sun. The layer of soil on top dries out quite quickly, while the soil below remains moist. Before you start watering you need to check the earth by 3−4 cm.

If the soil is dry at this depth, then you can water the fat plant without fear. When watering a money tree, the basic rule absolutely applies: don’t overdo it! In this case, watering will lead to rotting of the leaves.

If the watering regime is not followed and the soil is very wet, the roots become infected with fungus. In this case, you can save the money tree if you remove it together with a lump of earth from the pot, carefully dry and treat with solution against fungus.

Temperature for Crassula

In summer, a money tree requires a temperature of 21-26 degrees. But in winter the plant temperature reduction required. During dormancy, the optimal temperature for Crassula will be 11-16 degrees.

If it is not possible to create a plant desired temperature, then you shouldn’t place it near heating devices. The negative consequence of this will be the stretching of the trunk of the money tree and the falling of the leaves that are located below.

Lighting for Crassula

For this plant, the illumination of the room is important. But this does not mean at all that the Krasulla can be installed in direct sunlight. It is advisable to place the pot with the plant on a windowsill that faces southeast.

With this option, the money tree will enough natural light , but the plant will not get too hot. In summer, Krasulla can be installed on the floor of the loggia. Here the flower has enough air, and the effect of the sun's rays is minimized. In winter, the plant will do best on the south side.

Krasulla does not need constant moisture, so there is absolutely no need to spray it daily. But this plant does not like dust very much, so it must be periodically removed from the leaves. Also to the money tree constant ventilation is required, but do not allow strong drafts. They will only destroy the plant.

When a flower appears

Money tree, despite the fact that the descriptions of the species above indicate what flowers they bloom in, in reality few people have seen this phenomenon. Therefore, there is a fairly popular opinion that the Crassula does not bloom. But this is not true.

Lack of lighting and improper propagation prevent the money tree from blooming. In the tropics this plant blooms much more often. Flowering occurs during the growth of Krasulla.

Soil and bait. The best soil for this flower is the one used for growing cacti. The composition of this soil includes turf and coniferous soil, as well as neutral sand. Brick chips, ash, humus and clay are also important.

Transplantation and crown formation

This plant needs to be replanted according to its growth rate. You can easily do this several times a year. But this will depend on the speed of growth. It happens that weak roots cannot hold a large bush in a pot.

That's why it's important choose the right pot for the money tree. It should be voluminous, heavy and match the size of the fat woman. But there is no need to select a very deep container, since the roots of the plant are not very long.

An important component of caring for a money tree is crown formation. To form a crown, you need to wait until 4 new leaves are formed on the bush and a new bud is formed. You need to pinch it off by carefully unscrewing it with tweezers. There should be no more than 3-4 pairs of leaves on any branch of the plant.

When the bush grows, its top will also be needs to be plucked off. In order for the plant to grow evenly, it must be turned to the light in turn with different sides. If the time when 4 leaves have already grown is missed and new leaves are formed, pruning can help. It is only necessary to cut off the shoot above the 4th pair of leaves.

Pests and diseases

The money tree is considered resistant and unpretentious to various pests and diseases. But still, there are many pests that attack this plant:

A fungal infection will manifest itself spots Brown on the leaves. To cure a bacterial or fungal infection, complex drugs are used.

Gardeners often complain that the leaves of the money tree wither or fall off. This happens for the following reasons:

  • Leaves wither due to highly moist soil.
  • Direct rays of the sun or radiation from heating devices fall on the bottom of the bush.
  • The plant loses leaves if it is watered with cold water.
  • Lack of moisture causes leaves to fall.

Not many people know the healing properties of Crassula. The juice of this plant is used to treat tonsillitis, arthritis, herpes and sore throat. Money tree heals wounds, abscesses and cuts. For treatment, the juice of the leaves is used, which is squeezed by hand.

Money tree is excellent plant for any apartment. There is even a statement that it “becomes attached” to its owner and its active growth indicates the well-being of the home. Try growing a money tree, especially since there are practically no difficulties with this.

Do you want to improve your well-being? Then the money tree will come in handy! You just need to learn how to properly care for it. Common Crassula (Crassula or money tree) is popular with most gardeners.

This plant is native to Madagascar, Australia, southern Arabia and arid southern Africa.
