Before allocating a place in the garden for a tree of a new variety, I check the qualities of this variety by grafting into the crown of existing trees. This technique makes it possible to quickly determine the quality of the fruit. If I like a new variety, I give it an individual place in the garden or several skeletal branches for grafting into the crown. And if you don’t like it, just one click of the pruning shears- and there is nothing superfluous or unnecessary.

Cherry plum forms bunches of flower buds along the entire length of the annual growth, except for 15-25 cm at the tip itself. And the annual increase, if everything is in order with the soil, is considerable- 1-1.5 m. Of course, you want to get a larger harvest, you try to leave the branches as long as possible. If the cuttings for grafting are taken from winter storage or received by mail, then I be sure to soak them in water for a day. I cut the cuttings for grafting to a length of no more than 10 cm (after soaking). I cover the scion cuttings with wax for 1/2 of the length, dipping them for 1 second in a mixture melted in a water bath (paraffin, wax, garden varnish in equal parts).
