DIY hanging rack for wheels and tires. DIY wheel rack

Car accessories are also stored in the garage along with the car. Most often these are seasonal tires. Correct storage of tires is responsible for the quality, and subsequently, the safety during operation of the wheels.

Negligent attitude to the issue of storing wheels can lead to deformation of the shape and damage to the material of the tires. It is more practical to store car tires in a place equipped with a rack. Let's figure out how to make a rack for storing car tires with your own hands.

Before starting work, you need to decide on the place where the wheel rack will be located in the garage. There are several recommendations for the placement of shelving in the garage.

  1. It is not allowed to install the rack close to the wall so that the wheels do not come into contact with anything. To do this, you need to leave a gap between the wall and the shelving.
  2. The rack must not be placed close to the vehicle to avoid damage. Wheels may fall from the upper tiers of the rack, thereby leaving dents on the car.
  3. It is not permitted to place the rack next to chemicals. If liquids such as gasoline or oil come into contact, they can cause tire deformation.

Next, you should select the material from which the rack will be constructed. It is more advisable to choose wood, since working with wood does not require special skills and wood is cheaper than, for example, metal. To create the same metal structure You will need welding skills and yourself welding machine.

After this, you need to prepare a drawing or diagram with the exact dimensions of the product and the amount of material. The size of the rack will depend on the dimensions of the garage itself and the availability of free space.

In addition, you will need to acquire:

It is optimal to create a two-tier rack for wheels, which will allow you to store tires in a horizontal and vertical position. Horizontal option suitable for storing wheels with rims, and the vertical one for storing tires without rims.

For such a rack you will need four bars for the racks. If the product is more than one meter wide, it is recommended to add two more racks on different sides to avoid the rack breaking due to overload. You will also need four long boards for horizontal bracing and boards for cross bracing between posts. Such bars and boards are cut out according to a previously prepared drawing, thanks to which errors in the size and quantity of material will not arise.

If desired, the rack can be equipped with shelves. A shelf under the wheels will allow you to store additional items for the car. Chipboard sheets or regular boards are suitable for flooring, but such a rack will need sides to prevent the wheels from rolling off when stored vertically. You can also leave the rack as a frame. In this case, the tires will be fixed with long boards for horizontal connection.

The racks are installed to long boards for horizontal bracing and boards for transverse bracing using self-tapping screws. To strengthen the structure, the joints between the boards are additionally fixed to metal corners. Such corners will add strength to the product and allow you to store several sets of rubber.

The rack for storing automobile tires can be either mobile or fixed. For mobility of the rack, you will need to attach wheels to the racks. This type of rack requires the installation of an additional spacer along the long side. A diagonal brace will increase the rigidity and strength of the rack.

Wheels for the rack are purchased depending on the load that will be placed on the rack. The heavier the load, the more powerful the wheels attached to the rack should be. These wheels allow you to move the rack throughout the garage and take it outside to your car.

Finally, the wooden rack must be coated with an antiseptic, impregnated, then dried well and painted with moisture-resistant paint. Such a rack in the garage will solve the problem of storing replacement tires for a car and save space.

The article discusses the most convenient and practical do-it-yourself garage accessories that can improve the operating comfort of this room. Here are detailed recommendations for the development and creation of structures designed for convenient storage of tools and car parts, tips for making furniture, as well as arranging lighting and heating systems.

The garage is intended not only for storage, but also for servicing the car. For this reason, this room must be spacious, clean, comfortable and well-equipped.

To achieve all this, it is enough to take into account the basic requirements regarding the organization of space:

  1. The presence of shelves for tires and tool storage significantly saves free space and allows you to optimize space.
  2. The quality of lighting is of great importance, since not only productivity, but also the quality of minor repair work depends on it.
  3. The construction of a garage workbench, machines, inspection pit and other devices expand the range of possibilities of the car owner regarding repairs and service vehicle.

Helpful advice! All these elements should not occupy space exceeding 10-20% of the garage area.

Options for shelves in the garage with your own hands: photos and tips for arranging storage spaces

About 80% of the shelves in the garage are built with your own hands to store garage accessories, namely:

  • tools and additional devices;
  • components for the car;
  • accessories.

Often in photos of shelves in a garage with your own hands you can see them combined with a rack, which you can also make yourself. Most often, the rack is considered as the main place for storing tools. After its installation, the remaining space is filled with comfortable and spacious shelves.

Be sure to designate a place where work clothes will be stored. It is not necessary to occupy a large area; you can get by with one shelf or even a hook (depending on your needs).

A garage is a place where hazardous and flammable substances are stored. These include oil, gasoline, solvents, paints, and polishes. For them, it is necessary to provide a separate cabinet, hang a fire extinguisher and install a sand tank.

To protect against contamination during storage of wheels mounted on tire brackets, it is worth purchasing large bags or specialized covers to prevent dust from entering.

Brackets and shelves for wheels in the garage: design features

The most bulky spare parts of a vehicle include sets of tires, which can be winter or summer. When to use winter option, summer tires are usually stored in the garage, and vice versa. Therefore, you should organize tire storage shelves or brackets.

The design of the bracket is as follows:

  1. Two triangular frames made from corners. Between these frames, jumpers made of any durable metal are installed.
  2. The triangular parts of the structure are fixed on the wall in a pre-selected location. The wheels should be installed perpendicular to the supporting element of the stand. In this case, the tires should fall slightly between the jumpers, thus being fixed on the shelf due to their own weight.

Helpful advice! It is recommended to place shelves for wheels in the garage with your own hands as close to the ceiling as possible at the optimal height. Thanks to this, car tires will not take up useful space in the garage.

For compact storage of wheels, a whole rack in the form of four wide shelves can be used. It is suitable for placing wheels with discs, which can be placed one above the other in a horizontal position. The structure can be made angular and raised onto the wall.

  • wooden beam;
  • boards;
  • chipboard sheets.

Installing tire racks is the most efficient way to store wheels. Greater savings in free space can be achieved by hanging rubber from the ceiling base along the garage wall. This option is possible if the room has a large height and reinforced concrete floors in the form of slabs on the ceiling. They will be used as a basis for screwing in dowels.

Tool storage: interesting ideas for a DIY garage

To organize a convenient area for placing things, you can make your own homemade and very spacious rack or shelves. Of course, you can find hundreds in stores ready-made models However, making a shelf in the garage with your own hands is much cheaper than purchasing a similar product on the market.

The same problem applies to shelving. By taking on the task of making your own tool storage space, you can not only organize a convenient and practical rack, but also fit it harmoniously into the garage space.

Helpful advice! The minimum load that the structure must withstand is 150 kg or more. In this case, the maximum load limit per section is 500 kg.

Rules for the manufacture of wood products:

  1. It is better to use hardwood, for example, beech, oak, hornbeam.
  2. Before assembly, it is necessary to treat the wood with antiseptic agents.
  3. The frame parts must be carefully polished to ensure safe operation of the rack.
  4. To make shelves, it is recommended to use chipboard or plywood sheets, OSB. DVL slabs with a thickness of at least 4 mm are also suitable.

The thickness of the material is determined by the loads that will subsequently act on the rack.

Recommendations for making tool shelves in the garage with your own hands

Shelves are installed in cases where the garage does not allow for a shelving unit. It is better if there are several designs.

Scheme for creating shelves for tools:

  1. Plan the placement of shelves, determine their size and mark them.
  2. Prepare material in the form of boards and fasteners.
  3. Using a hammer drill, make holes in the wall and install dowels with hooks in them, which will provide enhanced fixation.
  4. Attach hangers equipped with eyelets to the boards. For metal hangers, it is recommended to use self-tapping screws or regular nails.
  5. Fix finished products using a building level, otherwise the tool may fall from the shelves, which makes operation unsafe.

Helpful advice! When making shelves, it is better to give preference to several short structures, since one long product can break under the weight of the tool.

At the final stage you can do decorative finishing products (paint or special film).

Technology for creating a tool rack in the garage

To create a rack with my own hands You will need boards 9 and 19 cm wide. The size of the structure can be adjusted.

Step-by-step technology:

  1. An element 9 cm wide is cut into several pieces 18 cm, 27.5 cm and 30 cm long. The resulting parts will be spacers.
  2. The board, the width of which is 19 cm, should be cut into pieces 36 cm long. Shelves will be made from these parts.
  3. On the board that will become the base of the product, it is necessary to apply markings in those places where there will be spacers. It is recommended to indent 2.5 cm on each side.
  4. The top spacer is glued, then nailed to it top shelf, already having a spacer. The remaining parts are mounted in the same way. Installation of the lower strut is carried out at the end.
  5. The structure should be turned over and the spacers should be screwed together with the base of the product.
  6. The surface is thoroughly cleaned using sandpaper. After this, the product must be coated with two layers of oil-based varnish or another type of finishing.
  7. The structure is fixed to the wall using anchor screws. Fixation should be done both under the top and bottom shelves.

Helpful advice! To strengthen the product, wood blocks should be installed between the sections. They will allow you to evenly distribute the load throughout the rack.

Organization of lighting and heating systems in the garage

To make the operation of the garage comfortable, the lighting, ventilation and heating systems in the room should be properly organized. Since cars are closely associated with the use of toxic and harmful substances, the problem of ventilation in confined spaces is particularly acute. For a garage, vents are suitable for brickwork. They are equipped with grilles.

Factors affecting lighting levels:

  • garage area, its height;
  • the number and nature of the placement of work areas (sizes of a workbench for a garage, inspection pit, number of machines);
  • type of decoration on the walls, its colors;
  • index power density networks per 1 m²;
  • type of garage lights.

For supporting optimal temperature can be used different kinds heating:

  • gas;
  • based on used oil;
  • air;
  • electric ( infrared heater for garage);
  • oven;
  • water;

There are many alternative ways to organize your own heating system.

Features of halogen, fluorescent and LED garage lights

The technical characteristics of halogen lamps are in many ways similar to incandescent lamps, but their bulb is filled with bromine vapor, so the products emit more light. The advantages of such lamps include a long service life - 4 thousand hours.

Helpful advice! Products must be placed in lampshades. It is also worth thinking about stabilization aimed at protecting against electrical surges. It is not recommended to touch such lamps with your hands (the shelf life will be reduced).

Fluorescent lamps are filled with inert gases inside. The inside of the flask is coated with a specialized composition that emits ultraviolet light under the influence of an arc-type discharge. Recommended models include IP-65 class products, protected from moisture and dust particles.

Installation LED lighting in the garage comes with the highest costs. However, they pay for themselves in 50 thousand working hours. In terms of efficiency, LEDs are 50% more profitable fluorescent lamps. At the same time, they do not contain harmful components, and the light does not have an aggressive effect on the eyes, so there is no need to purchase additional lampshades.

Installing lighting in a garage: how to calculate

To calculate the power of conventional lamps, you can use the formula:

P = S x W/N.

Explanation of values:

  • P – total required power, W/m².
  • W – power of one lamp, W.
  • N – number of lamps (luminaires), pcs.
  • S – room area, m².

For halogen and LED lamps optimal indicator is 16-20 W/m². This value is suitable for rooms where the ceiling height is no more than 2.5 m. In garages with 3-meter ceilings, this figure should be multiplied by 1.5.

The calculation is influenced interior decoration room walls. In dark garages, the lighting should be brighter.

Light reflectance level:

Room area, m²Ceiling height, mWall color
DarkLight
20 less than 30,6 0,75
50 0,75 0,9
100 0,85 1
20 3-5 0,4 0,55
50 0,6 0,75
100 0,75 0,9
50 5-7 0,4 0,55
100 0,6 0,75

To illuminate the inspection pit in the garage, it is recommended to use low-power lamps with halogen or LED lamps, since moisture accumulating in this place can cause an electric shock. The devices are mounted on the sides in pre-made recesses.

Helpful advice! To prevent an accidentally dropped tool from breaking the lamp, the design of the lamps can be made retractable. When the pit is not in use, the devices are securely hidden in the recesses.

Do-it-yourself autonomous lighting system in the garage

There are a number of principles on the basis of which an autonomous lighting system is implemented:

  1. LED strips are mounted inside the lampshades (there are 300 diodes per element).
  2. The switch is output strictly to the panel.
  3. A suspended ceiling system is used for electrical wiring.
  4. The wires are powered by a battery connected to the network via a charger.

A multi-level lighting system for a garage is considered the most optimal. It involves installing a large lamp in the middle of the room and installing small lamps in work areas.

Height calculation for a multi-level system:

LevelHeight, m
1 ceiling base
2 1,8
3 0,75
4 0,4

The lamps are installed correctly if the machine does not cast a shadow on either side.

Which heater to choose for a garage

Heating of the garage is carried out using small portable devices that are able to warm up the room in a short time and subsequently maintain the optimal temperature.

Having thought about which heaters are best for a garage, many mistakenly believe that a homemade device can be made exclusively from expensive components and requires a significant investment of time. For this reason, garage owners refuse this idea.

In fact, to make a garage heater with your own hands, it is enough to limit yourself to budget materials, for example, thermal film. The scheme for creating such a device is very simple and involves the use of the following materials and tools:

  • a kit intended for assembling a heater;
  • wire equipped with a plug;
  • paper laminated plastic (area of one element 1 m²);
  • graphite powder;
  • epoxy adhesive composition.

Helpful advice! Be sure to have a multimeter with you. This tool is useless when assembling the device, but it will be needed to check for functionality.

Thermal, or - a common heating option in the garage

Recommendations for assembling a homemade garage heater

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a garage heater:

  1. A mixture of glue and graphite powder is made. The more powder in the composition, the stronger the heating of the device will be. The average temperature ranges from 60-65°C.
  2. Plastic sheets on the rough side are coated with a mixture of glue and graphite, which is applied in zigzag strokes, after which they are fastened with their faces and fixed with a frame made from wooden slats.
  3. Terminals are attached to the graphite conductors and the structure is dried. Drying must be complete, otherwise moisture will damage the device.

After the heater has dried, the resistance should be checked. Safe heater for a garage it is considered only after this check. Until this point, it is strictly forbidden to connect the device to the electrical network.

Safety restrictions:

  1. It is not recommended to leave the device switched on unattended or near children.
  2. It is prohibited to use equipment that can cause a fire.
  3. Do not place flammable substances or materials near the device.

Making useful gadgets for your garage with your own hands

To carry out repair and maintenance work, you will need to build inspection hole in the garage with your own hands, the dimensions of which will correspond to the dimensions of the car, as well as a workbench for convenient work, plus equip the room with machines.

The basic set of tools and materials for creating a homemade garage workbench includes:

  • boards and wooden blocks;
  • fasteners and ties;
  • plane and other woodworking tools;
  • varnishing and carpentry adhesives;
  • sandpaper and drying oil.

Technology for making a workbench in the garage with your own hands: photos, drawings

The workbench consists of a table top and a base, as well as several clamping devices. The height of the workbench in the garage should be selected taking into account your own height. You can take as a guide the height of the kitchen table in the house, at which it is convenient to work. Be sure to make drawings to create a workbench for the garage with your own hands.

Recommendations for creating a viewing hole in the garage with your own hands

There are no specific sizes for a garage inspection pit. The dimensions of the car are taken as the basis.

How to make a viewing hole in a garage with optimal parameters:

  1. The width is selected so that there is enough space inside to work. The size is limited by the distance at which the car's wheels are seated. Each wheel needs a small area to maneuver. The average pit width is 0.8 m.
  2. The length of the pit is limited by the length of the machine. 1 m should be added to this indicator.
  3. The height of the garage owner is used to calculate the depth. Another 10-15 cm is added to it.

How to properly make a viewing hole in a garage using different materials:

MaterialWall thickness, cm

The pit is dug taking into account the optimal width of the pit, the material chosen for the walls, as well as the thickness of the waterproofing layer. Stages of creating a pit:

  • marking;
  • construction of a pit;
  • arrangement of the pit;
  • construction of walls;
  • lighting gasket.

For waterproofing walls, specialized hydrophobic impregnation is used.

Helpful advice! Using formwork, you can make reinforced recesses in the walls of the pit to accommodate tools and lighting fixtures.

Making a garage press with your own hands

To create a press, it should be made from 4 pieces metal pipes frame size 178x80 cm. These elements are connected by welding. It is recommended to be guided in your work by drawings, selected or compiled in advance. After this you need to install:

  • retainer;
  • removable stop;
  • bottle jack (hydraulic).

You can do it yourself. The list of useful devices does not end there. It can always be supplemented with any interesting ideas. The main thing is that the garage fully meets personal requirements in terms of comfort and convenience.

A garage is more than just a place to park a car. It is also a workshop, a place of relaxation, and a club of interests. Therefore, the arrangement of the garage should be convenient and thoughtful. You need to place a lot of things in a small area, and they should be convenient to use. Homemade products for the garage will help with this. What people don’t do with their own hands. From a simple shelf to a complex device. You can make all this yourself. But you need to know how. Several ideas for modernizing a garage and a plan for their implementation are in the article.

Homemade garage: ideas for arrangement

Setting up a garage is a long process. You won’t be able to do everything right away. You have to constantly modernize, change, and create something new. In this case, they mainly use homemade products for the garage. It requires less money and it’s also fun - making something out of garbage the right thing-it costs a lot.

Tire and wheel storage

Every car owner is faced with the problem of storing out-of-season “shoes” for the car. Where to put the tires is a sore point. In general, the way tires are stored depends on whether they are mounted on rims or not.

So tires with rims can be hung or stored lying down - in the form of a stack, stacking them one on top of the other. To hang tires, you can use luggage straps, chains, or a metal cable with a diameter of 4 mm or more in a polyethylene sheath. Fasten the belts to the ceiling, wall, or beam located above.

Another affordable way- drive pins or hooks with a small bend radius into the wall. The distance between the hooks is slightly larger than the diameter of the tires. The length of the pins should be such that they do not protrude beyond the tire. You can fill them almost to the ceiling so that the wheels fit.

Tires without rims can only be stored standing up. Special shelves are made for them. They are usually welded from profiled pipes. 20*20 mm, maximum 30*30 mm. You can also use a corner. Round pipe It’s inconvenient to cook, but you can make cross members from it - the tires fit and hold up better in this case.

The width of the shelf is 4 times the width of the tire, plus a margin of 10-15 cm for some freedom. The height of the rear wall is slightly higher than the outer diameter of the wheel. The design is simple = from the side it resembles a right triangle. Having it, welding such a shelf will not be difficult.

A shelf for storing tires is an excellent homemade product for the garage. This is a factory option with a completely inhumane price tag. But you can borrow an idea - the crossbars can be rearranged depending on the size of the tires... you never know. A shelf for tires in a garage with limited space. No tires - you can fold the shelf

Such shelves are usually hung on the wall. But the place must be chosen so that light does not fall on the rubber - this will deteriorate it. Not the most complicated DIY projects for the garage, but very useful.

Workplace

Probably the most a large number of DIY projects for the garage are related to the equipment of the workplace and tool storage systems. Moreover, this is not the only way to solve this problem. First of all, you need to decide where the workplace will be located. There are three options:

  • The entire width of the far wall. If the garage is of sufficient length and it is possible to “steal” about 1.5 meters. The advantage is that everything is located compactly, at hand, and does not interfere with walking along the car. The disadvantage of this solution is that you have to carry tools far away if work is carried out outdoors.

    Tabletop and many drawers. The main thing is to remember where everything is

  • Along one of long walls. This arrangement is chosen if the garage is wide but not long enough. It makes sense to place the table and workbench to the left of the entrance - on the driver’s side. But this is not critical. The disadvantage of this arrangement of the workplace in the garage is that you have to move with some caution, but it is more convenient to bring/take out tools outside.

    The main thing is to place the tools correctly

  • Taking one of the corners. This is an intermediate option. Moreover, one of the sides can be made longer, the other shorter.

    Placing a desktop in the corner of the garage and placing a sofa next to it is not a solution to the problem. Occupying two adjacent sides is a great idea.

A table or workbench for a garage is made of boards and covered with plywood. Inexpensive, quite reliable. If you have a welding machine and verification skills, you can weld a frame from a corner or profiled pipe. Again, it is better to sheathe it with moisture-resistant plywood. The result is a smooth, abrasion-resistant surface. You can, of course, use it, but the laminating layer is quickly damaged.

To prevent the space from wandering around, you can install shelves or make drawers under the countertop. Boxes are more convenient, but making them is still a hassle. It is quite possible to make shelves and put boxes made of plywood on them. Plastic boxes and baskets are also suitable. But the walls must be thick.

There is, by the way useful idea— make a rack for storing tools from used canisters. Find ones that have the handle on top. Then everything is simple - one of the sides is cut out and in the future this canister is used as a box.

It is not necessary to make a whole rack - it’s still difficult to remember where and what is located. But you can use the same principle to make drawers for shelves. By the way, you can stick inscriptions or pictures on the ends (with pictures, identification is faster). Such homemade projects for the garage bring satisfaction - create useful thing out of the trash - a pleasant feeling.

Tool storage

The most difficult task— organize tool storage in the garage. We need to make sure that everything is in order, but at the same time, is at hand and in sight. Moreover, closed boxes are suitable only for very organized people who always put the taken item back in its place. Otherwise, you will constantly rummage through drawers, forgetting where everything is. There are several ideas for convenient storage of small items and tools. These are very simple DIY projects for the garage.

A simple solution will help you quickly solve the problem. metal grid. A reinforcing mesh made of 2 mm wire, a 10 cm cage, is suitable. Attach it to the wall, bite off some rods, bend them, make hooks, crossbars, etc. out of them. You can buy special hooks that are attached to the mesh (available in stores that sell commercial equipment); ordinary double-sided hooks, which you can buy or make from wire, are also suitable.

A grid on the wall is a way to quickly organize tool storage

It is convenient to store screwdrivers on a special shelf. Take a board or plywood, 10-15 mm thick. The board must be sanded well so that there are no splinters. Then drill holes of different diameters in one or two rows in the plane. If the board is wide enough, you can make larger holes for chisels or even hammer handles. Clean all the chips again. Now we need to come up with a wall mount. You can use a regular bracket. Screwdrivers, chisels, and other similar materials are inserted into the holes. Convenient, fast, everything is in sight.

There is also useful homemade products for the garage, which allow you to organize storage hand tools. Pliers, pliers, wire cutters, etc. placing it comfortably is problematic. Can be hung on a net. It’s convenient to remove, but not to hang. But there is a simple solution - attach a narrow board and put the tool on it. To make it sit comfortably, grind down the board on one side. When cut, it should look like an isosceles triangle.

More simple idea for storing cordless tools, chargers and spare batteries for them. Make a shelf as in the photo above. In the lower part, cuts of different formats are made, and the upper parts are used as regular shelves. The idea is that everything is in one place, quickly taken out/installed in place. These garage DIY projects will make your workspace comfortable. It will be easy to maintain order.

Homemade carriers for the garage

Even with very good lighting in the garage itself or on the street during the day, under the bottom of the car, visibility is very low. To illuminate the front of the work, portable lamps are used. These are the simplest DIY projects for the garage. With them you can begin the epic of arranging and equipping your garage space.

In the very simple version This is a socket attached to a wire and can have a small shield with a hook attached to it. This is such a simple thing. The light bulbs used are ordinary ones - incandescent or economy ones with a standard socket. Everything is not bad, except that these light bulbs break very often, you need to figure out how to hang them so that they shine in a specific place. In general, the design needs improvement. There are several modification options.

Unbreakable lamp socket

This lampshade is from plastic bottle perfectly protects the fragile bulb of an energy-saving lamp. Can also be used LED lamp, but incandescent will not work - it heats up too much. The design is simple - a cord with a plug and a cartridge at the end.

The main task is to find a plastic vessel with walls made of translucent milky plastic of medium thickness. Transparent will not work - it will not scatter light, too thin walls will not save the lamp from impacts. Once a suitable vessel has been found, some small change remains:

Everything is simple, but such a lamp allows you to brightly illuminate exactly the desired area, the rest of the space is filled with even light that does not hurt the eyes.

Carrying LED Recessed Light

The simplest and most common homemade products for the garage are portable lamps. Without them, it is inconvenient to work not only in, but even just on a workbench. You need a flat recessed LED lamp that can be turned on at 220 V. These models are called “tablets” because of their shape. You also need a cord with a plug, a piece plastic window sill- to install a lamp. The window sill piece should be larger in size than the lamp. You choose the specific sizes yourself. The next steps are:

That's it, the homemade carrier is ready. This option is for floor installation. The movable leg allows you to change the angle of inclination. To make it turn over less, you can attach a couple of weights inside the body (in its lower part).

Attach the carrying cord to the ceiling

Convenience comes from little things, and very simple homemade products for the garage help with this. For example, you can remove the cable from a portable lamp that always gets tangled under your feet. Carrying is usually done with a cheap cable. It is not the most flexible, does not fold well, and its coils on the floor get under your feet. In general, it is inconvenient to use. You can protect yourself and carry it by hanging the cable from the ceiling. The solution is simple but very effective.

You can make this “suspension” to the ceiling for carrying with your own hands in an hour

  • Two anchors with a ring at the end.
  • Cable tie.
  • Clamp clamp.
  • Metal cable. The length depends on the size of the garage - it needs to be from one wall to the other.
  • Steel/plastic rings or steel wire and a piece of pipe to make these rings.
  • Carrying with a long cable - its length is approximately double the length of the garage.

The cable is stretched along the long side of the garage. It’s more convenient - not far from the “working” wall, where the workbench or other equipment is located. A little work:

Well, that's all. You can use it. With such a device, the carrier can be carried to any end of the garage without the cable getting tangled or caught. Convenient, takes little time.

DIY garage compressor

A compressor is needed in any garage. And, by the way, this is not the most difficult homemade product for the garage. A low-power compressor for the garage for inflating tires and other small jobs can be made with your own hands from auxiliary materials. For example, from a compressor from a refrigerator. For this you will need:

  • refrigerator compressor;
  • a sealed cylinder with thick walls (you can use a fire extinguisher flask or a small gas cylinder);
  • safety valve at 8 atm;
  • pressure gauge;
  • fitting;
  • oxygen hoses with couplings (select the length based on the size of your spare parts);
  • base for the compressor - a thick board or piece of plywood will do.

In order not to pump any nasty stuff into the tires, it is advisable to also install a filter to separate oils, dust and other contaminants. Scheme homemade compressor shown in the photo.

The compressor must have a starting device. We plug it into the network, see which tube the air is sucked into, and mark it. You can put a car filter on it - clean air will be pumped in.

We assemble an oil separator receiver from a cylinder and a safety valve. To do this, we cut two fittings into the cylinder - for air inlet and outlet. We place a safety valve on the inlet hole and connect the compressor outlet to it using an oxygen hose.

We install another automobile oil filter at the outlet of the oil separator receiver to completely remove the oil. We connect the filter to the pressure gauge, and from it comes a hose, which is connected to the tire through the appropriate adapter.

Assembly is complete. But in order to carry this device comfortably, everything needs to be secured in some way. You can weld the frame to size, attach wheels and a handle for easy transportation. One of the compressor options for inflating wheels is described in the video. There is no receiver, but its functions are performed by an oil filter. You can do it this way, but with a receiver the design is more reliable.

Since the compressor in the refrigerator is low-power, it may take a long time to inflate the tires. You can make it more powerful by installing two compressors that will start simultaneously. Accordingly, the pressure will build up twice as fast. But such an installation requires a more robust security group. Such homemade products require a little more equipment, since the scheme is still more complicated.

Here's how to make a wheel and tire rack using wood. If necessary, you can make several such structures. By the way, we are talking about a wall-mounted rack.

You will need:

  • Board;
  • Saw;
  • Hammer;
  • Nails;
  • Roulette.

As you can see, the design of the rack is very simple. You will need a board 10-15 cm wide. As for the size of the product, in this regard, be guided by the size of the wheels that it will accept.

The rack consists of two main parts of the structure. Start by assembling the supporting frame. For this purpose, you need to prepare five planks. Nail two long boards on top of the short ones, placing them on edge. Then fix another board between them, flush on one side.

Prepare three more planks. Nail two of them along the edge of the third, after which fix what happened to the supporting frame.

Don't forget about the wheels. When making a rack, keep one wheel somewhere nearby so that you can check the adaptability of the device to accept wheels and tires.

As for painting and varnishing, decide for yourself. We, of course, recommend treating the wood. Painting, like varnishing, will significantly extend the life of the rack, not to mention the fact that it will make it more aesthetically pleasing.

In the process of fixing the fixture to the wall, you will need fasteners that fit the walls of the garage. If the walls are made of concrete or brick, you will need anchors, and if they are made of wood, then screws.

Let's look at how to make shelves in the garage with your own hands to store what you need. auxiliary equipment and a variety of car care tools.

Garage racks - a wealth of design choices

Shelves in the garage make it possible to compactly place in a limited area many parts and tools for servicing a vehicle, as well as various household belongings that do not have a place in the apartment. For this reason, every car enthusiast installs racks in their “car home.” They keep your garage organized and allow you to find the item you need in seconds.

You can equip a car hangar with purchased shelves. Such designs are sold today to suit every taste. But even very expensive and “sophisticated” racks will not always satisfy your individual needs. It is much wiser to make shelves in the garage with your own hands, choosing the optimal sizes for such structures.

According to the installation option, racks for car boxes are divided into the following groups:

  • collapsible;
  • stationary;
  • mobile;
  • mounted;
  • rotating.

Collapsible shelves can be mounted anywhere in the garage and their location, width, height and layout can be changed if necessary. Stationary structures are created for installation in any specific area of the room. They are installed once and for all, fixed to the ceiling, wall or floor surface. In terms of strength indicators, stationary racks are more reliable than collapsible ones.

Mobile-type structures are equipped with rollers that allow them to be moved throughout the garage. They are essentially a small cart. It's comfortable. But you should understand that such racks are not able to withstand extremely high loads. Therefore, they cannot store bulky and heavy equipment.

Wall shelves are rarely installed at home. They need to be suspended and secured directly below the ceiling surface, which can cause serious problems. Although theoretically this is quite possible. A rare occurrence Rotating structures can also be considered. Visually they look like CD racks. On such mini-racks you can store all sorts of small things - screwdrivers, keys; they are not suitable for larger tools.

You will have to choose the number of shelves on the racks and their geometric dimensions yourself. Professionals advise designing the structure for the garage in such a way that all the tools used in servicing the vehicle can be placed on the shelves. In other words, it is advisable to make the racks spacious.

The most popular materials for making garage shelves are metal and wood. If you plan to install the structure for a long time, it is better to use hardware, which are characterized by durability and maximum strength. If you want to save on materials and not delay installation work, make a shelving unit in the garage with your own hands from wood. Working with lighter wood is many times easier than working with metal.

Also, shelves these days are made of plastic (they can be bought in a store) and combined - made of steel and wood or plastic and metal.

Like any relatively complex product, the rack should first be designed on paper. This can be done using ready-made drawings. It’s easy to draw up a sketch of the future design yourself, indicating the parameters of the shelves in it. In this case, the rack will be ideal for your garage.

It is usually recommended to place the shelving along one wall of the room. Optimal height structures - from the floor to the ceiling (not a single square centimeter of free space would be desirable for any car enthusiast to lose). Of course, if your garage is very high, the shelves can not be built up to ceiling surface, so as not to have to worry about climbing the stairs to the very top for some detail.

The lower shelves are always made more spacious and taller. They are designed to store wheels and large tools. The shelves that are located at the top of the structure are best made low. You will store all sorts of light little things on them. This will ensure good stability of the rack.

At the bottom, it is necessary to leave a gap of 15–20 cm between the structure and the floor covering.

It will give you the opportunity to easily sweep the floor under the rack. In addition, the pros advise drilling small holes in shelves for tools, canisters, and wheels. They will serve as natural ventilation for stored items, thereby protecting them from rusting, and will also allow you to easily sweep small debris and dust from the shelves.

The length of the rack is usually also made to span the entire width of the wall, leaving about 8–10 cm of free space on the sides of the structure. This will make it easier for you to carry out installation work. Choose the depth of the shelves yourself. At the same time, remember that too narrow niches are not suitable for storing large tools, and too deep ones are inconvenient to use (try to get something with your hands from a shelf about a meter deep). The recommended depth of niches for garage shelving is approximately 60 cm.

The most common shelf width (meaning the distance between two vertical supports of the structure) is 100 cm. You can make the width 30–50 cm larger if the shelf is intended for storing large (for example, wheels) or heavy metal products.

Making a metal rack with wooden shelves

A popular option for arranging garages is a structure with a metal frame (it will stand without exaggeration for decades) and wooden shelves. Vertical racks You can make such racks from rectangular profiles with one side measuring 4–5 cm, or from a corner with a shelf 3–5 cm.

The frame itself is made from a corner with a 1.5–2.5 cm shelf and is bolted to the vertical guides or welded to them. The welded connection holds the structure as firmly as possible, making it faster and easier. There is more hassle with bolts, but you get the opportunity to change the height of the shelves if necessary.

The shelves are made of boards 1.5–2.5 cm thick. In this case, they will be truly durable. You can also make them from regular or laminated plywood or wood chip products. Before installation, wooden shelves must be protected from moisture and fungus by oiling and painting.

Thus, the scheme for preparing components for the rack, and then assembling and installing them is as follows:

  1. Using a grinder, we cut metal blanks to specified sizes.
  2. We mark the vertical position of the racks and immediately mark the places where the shelves will be fixed.
  3. We weld (take on bolts) the corners (here it is important to control the horizontal arrangement of the elements).
  4. We apply a primer to the frame and paint it with a corrosion-resistant compound.
  5. We cut wooden shelves and “try on” them, placing them across the frame. You can install boards lengthwise, but in this case they can sag under the weight of large tools and spare parts.
  6. We impregnate (paint) wooden crafts and fasten them with a metal frame. It is advisable to fit the boards to each other as closely as possible.

The rack is ready. If you are not entirely sure of the high stability of the structure, you can additionally attach it to the garage wall with steel brackets.

Wooden shelving - it's very simple

Garage shelves made of wood are cheaper. In addition, they are easier to make and install. Therefore, many car owners decide to acquire just such designs. Here, however, it is worth remembering that wooden racks are used for less time than metal or combined ones.

It is optimal when the shelves are made of hard wood, such as oak. But pine boards are also quite suitable - inexpensive and accessible. It is important that they are well dried and free of large cracks and knots, deep wormholes and traces of mold.

The racks (vertical) are made of timber 10x5 or 10x10 cm, the shelves are made of particle boards or ordinary boards, the crossbars are made of timber of a smaller section or even from boards (but their thickness must be impressive).

  1. We cut boards and beams to specified sizes and treat them with an antiseptic composition.
  2. We assemble the structure using for connection individual parts lugs, tenons, wood glue or screws.
  3. To give the structure a larger area, we reinforce the joints with metal corners.
  4. We paint the finished rack (it is advisable to paint the ends in several layers).

In approximately the same way, you can make structures for a metal garage. But, of course, cut according the right sizes and it will be much more difficult for you to mount heavy racks, as well as other elements of the rack.
