Architectural style The loft can be called one of the most extraordinary. Therefore, it invariably attracts the attention of creative individuals. This style is based on the principle of an innovative approach to the design of facades and interiors.

The starting point of this architectural trend is considered to be the mid-19th century. It was during this period that the cities developed rapidly. Therefore, most of the old plants and factories were replaced with new ones and turned out to be unclaimed. People of art drew attention to the huge empty spaces and adapted them for organizing exhibitions and cultural events. All this required reconstruction of buildings and redesign of their facades.

Characteristic features of the loft style:

  • large areas of internal premises;
  • laconic design of facades and interiors;
  • clear lines and discreet colors;
  • maximum possible use of space;
  • numerous lighting sources.

A loft-style building can be distinguished by its flat horizontal or slightly sloping roof, which is used as a recreation area. The walls are erected from metal and concrete. The window openings are high and wide. Finishing materials are mainly metal, brick and stone. The color scheme is in gray and brown, close to natural tones.

To decorate the facade in the loft style, you can use most modern facing materials. The walls can be plastered and painted in a single color. Care should also be taken about lighting the facade.

This style is classified as the most democratic, so expensive and presentable finishing materials are not needed. Optimal choicefacing brick, concrete, plaster, flat metal façade panels plain color. To highlight individual elements of the building, it is possible to use high-quality wood. It can also be used to cover the entire area of the facade.

They will need to be coated not only with a bioprotective solution, but also with a tinting composition that emphasizes the natural texture of the wood. For loft-style decoration, painting is inappropriate, so the cost of preparing materials will be small.

Another option for designing facades is metal or plastic panels with a relief of strict geometric shapes. Such houses look like stylish containers or small modern buildings industrial purposes. This impression is enhanced if the house has a flat roof.

Finishing the facade using slatted systems

Rack and pinion systems - relatively new finishing material on the Russian market. Distinctive feature facades lined with it - a visual absence of fastening elements. The finish looks like a solid wooden or metal sheet assembled from vertically installed narrow and flat slats. This facade fully corresponds to the loft style, since character traits rack systems - simplicity and clarity of lines.

This finishing material can be used not only in the external decoration of the walls of the building, but also for lining the roof overhangs. Flat roofs often made with long projections overhanging the porch. The lower surface of these overhangs is sheathed with the same panels as the walls.

Such facades look most advantageous in combination with glass. Therefore, window openings must be large enough. Various are used to decorate walls. lighting, the body of which should be as simple and concise as the general appearance of the building. The main elements of rack systems are lamellas. This is the name given to the flat wooden or metal slats that make up the façade cladding structure.

If you decide to use wood, you can significantly reduce the cost of cladding your house. If you have a professional or semi-professional woodworking machine (for example, a thickness planer), you can independently produce the required amount of material - planken.

You can also coat the wood with a fire-bioprotective, and subsequently tinting, composition on your own. All this will significantly reduce the cost of assembly and installation of the rack system, which will fully meet the requirements of the loft style, one of the most democratic architectural trends.

Design features of metal slatted facade systems

Metal lath systems are suspended ventilated structures, so they can be used for cladding walls made of any materials: foam and gas blocks, wood, concrete, brick. This facade is reliable and easy to install, but requires knowledge of the technology of its construction.

The main elements of the system are protective screens and load-bearing profiles (combs). Screens are flat massive panels consisting of metal slats (lamellas). The main feature of the design is that with outside at home it looks like a monolithic shield without a hint of the presence of any connecting or fastening elements.

Technical characteristics of metal lamellas

Among the domestic manufacturers of rack and pinion systems, the most famous is the Albes company. Most industrial buildings located in all regions of Russia are lined with its materials. Slatted façade structures from this manufacturer are ideal for exterior finishing residential buildings in loft style.

Assembly of metal screens

Manufacturers of slatted facades offer several types of slats:

  • with closed joint;

  • with decorative groove;

  • supported type with decorative groove;

  • supported type with closed joint;

  • with increased rigidity.

From the point of view of thermal engineering, ventilated facades are the most successful designs. In slats, as in other cladding systems, the gap gap is ensured not by the distances between the slats, but by the gap between load-bearing wall and cladding. Screens of slatted systems are assembled in such a way that the slats fit tightly enough to each other. The strength of the connections is ensured by special locks that are present on both edges of each rail.

The lamellas are installed in the grooves of the combs so that each subsequent slat forms a solid web with the previous one. Assembling the screens is as simple as installing and dismantling them. Depending on the preferences of the homeowner, the horizontal or vertical direction of the slats can be chosen. But most often they choose the first.

Metal slats - durable, but at the same time sufficient flexible material. Thanks to this feature, facing structures are able to compensate for changes in the geometric shapes of the facade that arise due to shrinkage of the building and seasonal movements of the soil.

Installation of a metal slatted facade

The main elements of a suspended ventilated facade:

  • thermal insulation material;
  • vapor barrier film;
  • brackets for attaching frame racks (metal hangers for drywall are most often used);
  • frame racks;
  • finishing material.

The distance between the vapor barrier layer and the facing structure is called the ventilation gap. It is this that ensures the removal of moisture from the walls of the building and the materials protecting them. Installation of a ventilated facade consists of several stages.

Example - a wall without finishing

Step 1. Preparing the walls of the building for laying thermal insulation material. Remove the old cladding and strengthen the load-bearing surface with cement-sand mortar.

Step 2. The brackets are attached in increments of 60-80 cm.

Step 3. Starting from the base, lay the thermal insulation sheets on the wall and fasten it using special dowel-nails with a mushroom-shaped cap. To do this, a hole is drilled in the wall of the house into which a fastening element is driven. For fixing a sheet of foam or mineral wool 5 dowels are enough. One of them is installed in the middle, the rest - at corner points.

Step 4. A vapor barrier membrane is laid on top of the insulation layer, which is secured using a stapler and staples.

Step 5. Install vertical or horizontal frame posts. IN in this case- combs.

They are attached horizontally at a distance of 100-120 cm from each other. The upper and lower combs should be installed at a distance of 10-15 cm from the edge of the walls.

Step 6. A set of slats is carried out by snapping each of them into the corresponding grooves of the combs.

To decorate the facade, you will also need other finishing elements: external and internal corners, metal corners for covering the upper and lower edges of the facing structure. These parts are secured using galvanized self-tapping screws.

For those homeowners for whom the issue of reducing the cost of finishing the facade in the loft style is relevant, there is a simple solution: self-production and installation of cladding panels made of wooden slats. Moreover, these systems can be either monolithic or lattice. The latter are chosen if the building does not need insulation. Therefore, lattice systems are most in demand in regions with warm climates.

The owner independently selects all design parameters for finishing the facade: the width and thickness of the slats, the cross-section of the bars for the frame, the brand of protective composition for wood processing, the color of the tinting agent.

When choosing the width of the slats, you can focus on the standard sizes of the lamellas of metal slatted systems. Therefore, the most suitable width is 9-32 cm. The area of the walls should also be taken into account. The larger the facade, the wider the slats should be. Compliance with this rule will help to install an aesthetically attractive and harmonious structure.

To attach the finishing elements you will need wood screws. If a light color is chosen for tinting the slats, then the fastening elements must be selected accordingly.

Instead of self-tapping screws, you can use adhesive compositions“Moment Joiner” or “Kleiberit PU-glue 501.0”. When choosing, take into account such characteristics of the adhesive as moisture resistance and the ability to withstand high and low temperatures.

If it is decided to clad the walls of a house with monolithic wooden panels, installation is carried out according to the principle of constructing a ventilated facade, by analogy with metal systems. If the slats are located at some distance from each other, the supporting frame profiles can be attached directly to the walls of the facade.

Fastening the slats. If you drill holes for self-tapping screws in advance, the appearance of the facade will only benefit

Practicality and the desire to create something with your own hands sometimes exceed all expectations. Now the barns are in use and industrial premises. Yes Yes. Huge warehouses, hangars, and workshops of abandoned factories converted into residential premises are becoming increasingly popular. And this style is called loft.

It applies not only to interior decoration, but also to the exterior, that is, the appearance of the house. Those who like spacious rooms will like it loft style house project. And for this you don’t need to look for an ownerless warehouse. You can build such a house on any plot from scratch. Of course, it will be different from the classic ones brick cottages, wooden cozy houses in chalet style or village huts. Such a building will be modern, filled with light and space. Let's also add that it will raise the status of the owner, it will be comfortable, stylish and modern.

Features of a loft-style house

Lofts are spacious rooms in which internal partitions kept to a minimum, with high ceilings, laconic design. Such houses are spacious and brick walls, oddly enough, they create cozy atmosphere. The building will be just as spacious and free.

Is the loft style relevant today? Definitely yes. It's relatively new and hasn't become boring yet. Fits perfectly into the urban landscape and towns located around the metropolis. In addition, it combines everything that adherents like so much modern styles, minimalism:

  • high ceilings;
  • huge panoramic windows;
  • abundance of natural light due to the same windows;
  • maximum space and functionality inside;
  • modern or improved materials used in construction and finishing;
  • geometric clarity of the building;
  • simplicity and economy in construction and finishing of the facade.

The building in the loft style is simple, without pretentiousness or elaborate decorative details. Any detail present in the exterior of the house has a functional meaning.

Relatively inexpensive materials are used during construction: cement, sand, brick. Since a loft-style house welcomes naturalness, the facade will not require decorative finishing, siding, or Venetian plaster. You can deduct this expense item from the estimate.

Characteristic features of the loft exterior

The exterior of the house looks reliable and impregnable, protecting personal life from outside interference. The interior decoration can be anything - from modern, loft to high-tech and neoclassicism.

But if you look at the house not directly, but from the side, the asymmetry of the building catches your eye - one of the features of the loft style. In addition to the front part of the house, which is not necessarily the entrance to it, there are also various niches, bends, and protrusions. But again, they are all geometrically straight. Loft welcomes straight lines, simple lines, as if emphasizing the futility of the labor-intensive process of leveling rounded walls.

  • Brick of a natural shade was chosen for the facade, which makes the house even closer to the natural environment.
  • The roof is simple, gable or flat, covered with copper sheets. The material is environmentally friendly, not affected by precipitation, and easy to install.
  • The shape of the roof prevents snow and fallen leaves from accumulating on it, and they slide down unhindered.
  • The windows in the house are large, the entire height of the walls - unless they encounter obstacles below in the form of garage doors or entrance to the house.
  • The house has one, maximum two floors.

Asymmetry is also acceptable in the placement of windows. If the house is on two floors, then the windows can go one above the other, or they can be located as the owner wants.

It's hard to imagine that loft style house project looks like some kind of warehouse or industrial workshop. But the main features of this direction can be discerned without problems. And do not forget that such a project does not at all oblige you to maintain a “garage” environment inside.

Today it is a variety of different style solutions. Freedom to organize residential and non-residential premises, the lack of fashion in certain directions makes it possible to realize any flight of fancy, as well as furnish apartments and houses in accordance with one’s own taste preferences. It is not for nothing that the loft style has won recognition among lovers of unusual design ideas.

loft?

Decorating an apartment or house in a loft style means emphasizing your originality and knowledge of current design trends. Specialists in the field of design often offer this interior direction to people who are inclined to individuality and self-expression, and who also do not like overload in the design of premises. The feeling of space is one of the features of this popular destination.

The loft style developed at the beginning of the 20th century, when the cost of land increased sharply in the center of New York. Due to this industrial buildings factories began to be moved to the outskirts of the city, and old ones were converted into housing. The premises were divided into zones and equipped with a kitchen, toilet and bathroom.

Thus, the first apartments were industrial buildings converted into housing (loft in English - “attic”). Hence the asceticism and urbanization in the modern design of loft interiors.

Initially, the loft style was used to decorate rooms like studio apartments and did not involve division into rooms and zones. In this regard, it was not possible to decorate the house in a loft style. Over time, this direction has gone beyond its once stable boundaries. And more and more often one could find country houses and cottages decorated in the loft style.

Distinctive features of loft-style rooms

Premises decorated in the traditions of loft design cannot be confused with any other stylistic direction. These design solutions are distinguished by special characteristics not inherent in any other interiors:

  • combination of sophisticated exquisite forms with rude ones;
  • maximum space;
  • the presence of unhidden pipes;
  • brickwork or decor that imitates it;
  • wooden beams and massive pillars;
  • rough finishing of walls and ceilings (often imitating plaster, without subsequent painting).

Eclecticism is another feature of the loft. The mixture of different styles distinguishes this direction from others. For example, the interior of a loft-style house can be organized by combining furniture elements from different design trends.

Finishing facilities

Loft renovations must be carried out in keeping with the industrial, urban orientation.

Indoor walls decorated with brickwork or rough plaster are a normal occurrence when creating an interior in this style.

The ceiling in the loft style is often decorated wooden beams, creating an attic atmosphere. Such elements can be complemented by massive pillars, giving the room a special, incomparable coziness. A sure sign of this original architectural solution the characteristic plank floor protrudes. A loft-style ceiling can be decorated not only in the living room, but also in other living areas of the house.

And if you see that the facade of the building is decorated using large quantity glass and plastic, there is rough brickwork and there is no bright colors, then you can be sure that this is a loft-style house.

Loft furniture in the interior

A characteristic feature of the design of premises in the loft style is the combination of furniture from different design trends. Bold decisions add even more originality to the interior.

In a loft bedroom, a combination of an absolutely classic wardrobe with an ultra-modern bed would look appropriate. Antique pieces of furniture here are in perfect harmony with fashionable accessories.

Both country houses and city apartments in the center of a metropolis can be equipped with rough, authentic furniture - for example, wooden benches, chairs and stools. An expensive leather item can easily sit next to such items. Such solutions are not prohibited by the rules for organizing a loft interior.

An abundance of open shelves and niches is a characteristic feature of a loft-style interior.

Accessories and decoration of loft-style rooms

A loft-style house must be equipped with ultra-modern household appliances. Plasma TV in the living room, fashionable built-in appliances in the kitchen are an indispensable condition for organizing premises in this design direction.

Luxurious chandeliers, familiar vases and figurines will look out of place in a loft interior, so it is better to exclude them from the list of accessories.

The walls can be decorated with urban posters, black and white photographs and cutting-edge paintings. Abstract and avant-garde painting will look good.

The combination of contrasting finishing elements - metal and wood, leather and glass - will harmoniously fit into the loft interior.

Such interiors are interesting in that when decorating them it is possible to use original design solutions. Here you can bring any creative flight of thought to life.

Thus, loft-style house designs sometimes offer future owners to place bathtubs right next to the beds in the bedrooms and use them completely glass walls, combine kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms into a single room and others unusual options. Originality is what the emphasis is on in this design direction.

Decorating your home or apartment using these trends can seem like a very bold step. But if you are creative, creative person and you want to decorate your living space boldly, extravagantly, but at the same time cozy and stylish, then, without a doubt, this democratic style should be given preference.

FORUMHOUSE showed a frame house in the LOFT style.

The customer had the task of building it in one season. Accordingly, he immediately rejected a bunch of other options for house designs, due to the fact that it would take a long time. Frame house, even with the cost of his expensive project, he was not embarrassed, because Finland is close, and many residents of Vyborg are constantly there, and see the houses, they perfectly understand all the pros and cons. For him, this was fundamental when choosing the design of the house.

We must also understand that the area of the house itself is quite large, and any construction works with such areas, they are still stretched out in time, which is why the customer’s choice was determined frame house. Plus, there were requirements for good insulation, because it is not known what happens with gas, the heating is electric. In terms of area, it turns out that it is of irregular shape, but taking into account the second light, the total area is a little more than 300 meters.

The project was developed at the request of the customer. Accordingly, the Polish project was initially chosen as the prototype. It was processed quite deeply, only parts appearance remained original. An insulated Swedish stove with a zero cycle was made, then the frame for the roof was made, and now the third stage, rough finishing. It is in its final stage, almost all the work inside has been completed, only the façade work remains on the outside.
In terms of time, the first stage lasted 10 days, the frame for the roof took about 3 weeks, and the rough finishing work is now a little over 2 months. All together, this will be somewhere around 3.5 months.

What can I say about the house? I saw its construction from the very beginning, a large volume, big house, and it’s great that the customers decided on a loft. It’s good that such projects are now becoming fashionable, because they are much more interesting than the typical, classic, square, rectangular ones. And I also like the large glazing area, windows, and in the living room there are no imposts, partitions, there is a lot of light.

The foundation is an insulated Swedish slab. In this case, it is 40 centimeters high, which means that in the floor area there are 30 centimeters of insulation, 10 centimeters of concrete, in the area of the ribs 20 centimeters of concrete, 20 centimeters of insulation. We can already see only the finishing of the base, it is made of sheet metal flat slate, which is glued to L-blocks before installation. You can see the insulated blind area, which is covered with screenings, and you can see the rain inlets that are installed in the places where the drains from the roof will now be connected.

At this house interesting facade. This is a tree, larch, planken, there is a piece in your hands, thickness 28 millimeters, 45 degrees. This is a selected planken, the price is for square meter about 2000 rubles, that is, quite expensive material, one might even say, maybe premium class. And, as you can see, it looks much more solid and reliable than many analogues.

On the façade we see beveled larch planks, which were painted by the customer himself. Underneath there is a gap, then windproof boards, then 20 centimeters of frame support, and 5 centimeters of sheathing. All this is insulated with 25 centimeters of stone wool. Next comes the vapor barrier and internal cladding. The planken fastener itself is a snake, a hidden fastener, that is, it is visible only through the gap. Accordingly, it is done so that no traces of fasteners are visible on the facade.

The first floor has an area of 180 meters. There is a large living room, kitchen, 2 living rooms, a boiler room, and a fairly large complex with a spa area, sauna, and large shower. The second floor is one large free zone, that is, there is no demarcation, no partitions. You can simply distinguish 3 parts of the zone: the one that is directly adjacent to the second light, and the one that is to the left there, and to the right of the second light. This creates an extension on both sides. The terrace structure consists of logs made of impregnated boards, one base is attached to the USP outlets from the foundation, the other part is attached to bored piles, which are installed together with the slab.
