DIY country crafts for garden decoration, photo. Making a decorative vegetable garden in the garden with your own hands

Not all summer residents limit themselves to laying out flower beds and mixborders on their property. Many people like the creation of decorative vegetable gardens - in addition to aesthetic pleasure, there is an opportunity to provide for their table aromatic herbs, and especially caring owners can get good harvest vegetables Of course, upon registration decorative city It’s not enough to dig a few beds and sow them with seeds. It is important to ensure that this fruitful area matches the overall concept of the garden.

Growing vegetables is one of the most labor-intensive gardening activities. The garden needs to be cleaned every year, fertilized, sowed, seedlings planted, watered, and weeded. Why fence him off? Firstly, to get the freshest and healthiest vegetables. Another reason is savings. You can save some vegetables for the winter and make preparations, although for most working city dwellers this is more of a theory. To do this, you need to be able to grow vegetables, occupy a large area for a garden, spend a lot of free time and a lot of effort on caring for it and “producing” preparations. The third reason for gardening is perhaps the most important. Growing vegetables is exciting process requiring skill and talent.

Skilled gardeners derive satisfaction from the opportunity to grow exactly the vegetables and the variety they want. If you have a talent for growing vegetables, don't let it go to waste.

Do you have the desire and need to garden? Some gardeners are not inspired by the idea of a vegetable garden at all; there are also those who are ready to give it up the best place in the garden, most plot owners prefer to combine the cultivation of ornamental and edible plants in the garden.

Designing a decorative vegetable garden at a summer cottage (with photo)

The vegetable garden in the garden, the design of which is made in the form of a geometric pattern, is elegant and pleasing to the eye. Of course, you will need funds to create it, but digging in beds or boxes is practically not necessary, the harvest in them is always higher, and the vegetables are more beautiful and ripen earlier.

Neat beds look especially decorative if marigolds, nasturtiums, marigolds, or even short roses, groundcover or miniature, are planted in them next to vegetables, for example around the perimeter.

When designing a vegetable garden, you can play with the color of the boards; brown and orange are good, I especially like blue.

Look at the photo: you can decorate a decorative vegetable garden with blue bottles of Moselle wine - it turns out quite nice:

Painted boards for delimiting beds are most often used in Russian vegetable gardens; vertically placed tiles and wickerwork can also be used. The last option is very beautiful, but such “borders” will need to be updated every two years.

In the design of a decorative vegetable garden, low trimmed hedges 20-30 cm high can be planted as borders for beds. Of course, creating and caring for them is quite expensive and takes time, but decorative effect worth it.

They can be made from alpine Schmidt currants, privet, and Thunberg barberry.

As you can see in the photo, when decorating a vegetable garden, you can use annuals for such borders - marigolds, marigolds, nasturtium or clipped kochia; curly parsley, chard, etc. are good for this purpose. beautiful foliage carrots and regular beets will also work.

If the space allows, set aside a place to decorate a plot in the garden for a fragrant herb garden that combines benefits and beauty. Their wonderful aroma heals the body and soul; it’s good when they grow in a recreation area, where you can not only pick them, but also stroke them with your hand.

Another vegetable garden idea is to grow herbs in ceramic pots and any other containers, such as plastic flowerpots, wicker baskets, even wooden boxes with pre-lined film on the inside or brightly colored large olive oil jars.

In a fairly large container or several medium-sized containers, you can organize a mini-vegetable garden. From the point of view of productivity, a garden in a container is pampering, but so cute and cute.

Not only herbs (parsley, dill, thyme, rosemary, mint, lemon balm, etc.) feel good in pots, but also chives, lettuces, cherry tomatoes, decorative peppers, strawberries.

To make it even more decorative, add healthy garden flowers such as nasturtium, calendula and marigolds. When decorating a vegetable garden with your own hands, place such containers near the barbecue or grill - you are guaranteed to delight your guests.

For the winter, the rosemary in the pot will move to an indoor window sill or glassed-in loggia, and dig the strawberries and thyme into the ground on the site.

Modern Belgian and Dutch gardeners grow plants in bags similar to “shuttle” bags, simply by purchasing the desired varieties of desired vegetables, herbs and strawberries at the garden center in containers with handles, which can only be brought to the garden and placed on sunny place yes water regularly.

There are requirements that are mandatory for any vegetable garden, regardless of its size and shape of the beds; a sunny place, protected from northern winds, is allocated for growing vegetables; here you need to make a compost heap; organize easy access to water for irrigation; fill the beds with loose, fertile soil, ensure timely watering and fertilizing, and observe crop rotation.

Design of beds and photos of beautiful garden design

How about when registering? beautiful vegetable gardens What should those gardeners do who have a traditional, non-decorative garden? Be sure to close this separate area, so important and useful, from view from the house, from the gate and the recreation area, because for most of the season (spring, early summer and after harvest) it looks unattractive.

When designing beds in the garden, you can decorate them with a long mixborder; a living multi-colored “screen” will do its job perfectly. You can use a garden screen with or without vines for this purpose, as well as hedge, trimmed or free-growing, I especially like it when they use it in such a hedge. fruit bushes- gooseberries, red and white currants, regular or standard.

When planning our garden, we sometimes think only about the artistic side of the matter, implying that beauty and benefit are mutually exclusive, but you can successfully combine both.

Pay attention to the photo of the design of the beds in the garden - this is not just an area where vegetables are grown, not only an agricultural workshop, but also one of the full-fledged decorative areas of the garden.

The conceptual gardener can take a cue from the Popes, who created an ornamental vegetable garden in purple tones in England's Headspan. The dark purple color of the leaves in it is provided by amaranth, basil, cabbage, lettuce, bean pods and eggplant fruits.

To avoid it being too gloomy, we planted chard ‘Hadspen Golden’ with orange stems, pumpkins and zucchini with yellow stems. orange flowers and fruits, nasturtium, calendula, zinnias and sunflowers with orange flowers. As you can see, color schemes can be invented not only in the flower garden, but also in the vegetable garden, and without compromising functionality. In plan, the Pope's vegetable garden is a square, in the center of which vegetable vines - beans and sweet peas - climb on four pillars of a square pergola, and around the pergola there are only 8 beds with wide row spacing paved with tiles.

For row spacing, you can use not only gravel and tiles, but also wood chips and ground bark, but this coating will have to be renewed once every 1-2 years.

As you can see in the photo, when decorating beds in a vegetable garden, sod row spacing looks good; they say this is exactly what they did in the old days in vegetable gardens in the Russian North:

If you enjoy growing vegetables and can devote enough time to it, then a greenhouse will bring you a lot of joy. It is convenient to grow seedlings of vegetables and flowers and preserve heat-loving plants from frost.

It can be not only a “closed garden bed”, but also a cozy refuge for fiddling with your favorite plants and even thoughts and dreams.

When starting a greenhouse, do not forget that you need to open it in the morning and close it in the evening, and water the plants daily. It should be purchased only if you have the desire and time to care for the plants.

Now each family independently decides whether to have a vegetable garden or not, but do not forget that the Russian garden has always combined beauty and benefit.

And even if you have never grown vegetables, try it, it is a fun and tasty activity.

Cabbage is another variant of the plant, the beauty of which is not always appreciated by those who are unfamiliar with the characteristics of its varieties. There are many technologies that describe how to beautifully make garden beds; photos of structures planted with cabbage look no worse than flower beds in the courtyard.

Several varieties can be found on sale red cabbage, which can be successfully used to create decorative bed. These varieties include “Mikhnevskaya Krasavitsa”, “Langedeyker”, “Rodima F1” and many others. In addition to external beauty, they will give bountiful harvest at the end of the year.

How to make beautiful garden beds at your dacha: photo examples of decorative fences

Living fences are the most environmentally friendly way to design beds in an ornamental vegetable garden. The difference in the structure of plants or their colors can be effectively played up in the design by creating a natural frame around the plantings. This technique is also used to decorate the bed with geometric patterns or rows. different heights and colors.

Frames for beds can be made with your own hands from any available materials. For these purposes, vine, stone, and wood are suitable. Even the use of beds without framing is allowed. In this case, the design relies on an unusual shape of the structure.

To create a natural border for the bed, it is best to use a lawn. Green grass is easy to handle, obedient and allows you to create even the most complex shapes on your site. The result looks stunning, giving a special design to the area.

This technology also has disadvantages:

  1. Lawn grass grows quickly and spreads well. Such a fence requires regular maintenance, otherwise the lawn will spread to the garden bed. To prevent this, it is recommended to do weeding from time to time.
  2. A green lawn does not provide protection from pests and rodents, which can cause serious damage to the crop.
  3. A bed framed in the form lawn grass loses its shape over time. You need to monitor its position and correct it if necessary.

Helpful advice! To prevent pests from getting to your vegetable crops, you can buy beautiful plastic beds. These products are strong, practical and durable. Available for sale decorative options imitating wood or stone.

The advantages of lawn grass framing include excellent decorative characteristics, simple system organization and further maintenance.

Popular options for decorative design of beds

Options that do not have a frame look interesting. Such beds have beautiful shape, they are raised above ground level. Crushed stone, stone or sawdust are used to create passages between them. The last option can be dug up in a year and you can get fertilizer for the soil. To prevent the edges of the beds from crumbling, it is not recommended to raise them more than 20 cm above ground level.

Low-growing shrubs will be an excellent replacement artificial materials. Large vegetables (for example, cabbage) or herbs are planted using a similar technology. But in this case, the beds will need regular maintenance. Boxwood shrubs, apical pachysanthra or lavender are suitable for organizing a living fence. These plants can be successfully used as frames, but given their high cost, most summer residents decorate beds with them located at the front facade of the building.

The design of beds can be very diverse, it all depends on your imagination. To diversify the appearance of plantings, you can add flowers to vegetable crops, for example, marigolds. Their bright orange flowers will brighten up boring greenery and protect plants from aphids.

Glass or glass can be used as a decorative frame. plastic bottles, blocks of wood, pieces of slate, bricks, ceramic tiles and other available materials that could remain on the site after construction or renovation.

Built country house with a bathhouse and a fence, the beds and greenhouse are in perfect order, the small area is pleasing to the eye wooden gazebo near the gate, but still something is missing. What we put our soul and imagination into, what makes our world individual, what creates the mood and atmosphere - that is, decor, decorations, without which the world seems dull and boring. And decorating a garden with your own hands is the height of creativity and skill.

It’s better to start with what is clear and known from childhood. There are flower beds with peonies, roses, and asters at any dacha, where families not only grow crops, but also relax. What will happen if, instead of a regular flower bed, you decorate a small flower garden? The fact is that this does not require either expensive purchases or exotic plants. A little old dishes, furniture, utensils - and the familiar picture will come to life.

As soon as you pour soil into any unnecessary container, it immediately turns into a place for creating a flower garden. An old trough, a wooden cart, a broken wheelbarrow, a large leaky pan, a worn-out shoe - before throwing away old things, you need to think about whether they will be useful for a miracle flowerbed?

The old tubs received a second life, turning into a small flower garden. A little paint or varnish, new steel rings - and you can plant flowers

The lawn will come to life if you decorate it with a decorative flower bed in a wooden “antique” trough with legs

Unusual decorations for the garden and vegetable garden are all around, you just have to look around. If space allows, even an old bed will do for a flower garden.

Every woman's dream is a bed strewn with flowers. Looks bold and original

You can not deviate from the traditional, but decorate them with a fence made of any natural material: picket fence, chocks, stones, artificial stone. A lot of construction waste remains after building a house, pool or bathhouse - it is also useful for edging flower beds.

Framing a flower bed made of stone is simple, but looks great

When arranging original flower beds, one should not forget about the unity of style: for example, the stone frame of a flower bed is organically combined with a stone facade.

Here are some other ideas I found on the Internet:

Popular techniques for decorating ponds

Traditional decoration method garden ponds is the use of water - these are fountains and waterfalls. Nothing can be more natural than foaming, murmuring, intersecting streams and a rainbow created by the smallest droplets. The owners of plots through whose territory a stream flows are lucky: with the help of artificial rapids they can create a whole cascade of waterfalls. By the way. It is not difficult to organize such a stream if the house has a water supply system.

To create an artificial stream with a waterfall, you need to prepare stones, lay a pipe for water supply and plant plants

Using various ones, you can create a small composition from jets gushing from under the water.

A small pond with a fountain looks picturesque against the backdrop of surrounding vegetation.

Illumination for a pond is often used, and the lamps can be floating or underwater. At night, the pond, shimmering with different colors, looks quite impressive. An inexpensive set of lamps can be bought in a store for 1,500 rubles, more serious sets - from 5,000 rubles.

You can install multi-colored lighting for the pond yourself by purchasing a ready-made kit in the store

When using figurines or other objects to decorate a pond, you should remember: the more natural the garden decorations look, the better.

Water flows into the pond from a ceramic jug, as if accidentally overturned on the shore. Looks natural and figurative

Wooden decor in a rustic style

Wood is an affordable and easy-to-process material. Using modern primers, paints, varnishes and anti-fungal agents, as well as with sufficient skill and patience, you can create real masterpieces.

A masterfully made retro car made of wood, a real original work - exquisite decoration for a summer cottage

Interesting wooden decorations for the garden are divided into 2 groups:

  • functional;
  • decorative.

The first group includes carved gazebos, fences, benches, bridges over a pond - that is, everything that is actively used every day. Second group - decorative ornaments for cottages and gardens, revitalizing lawns, flower beds and areas. Most products harmoniously combine both functions.

Wooden decor is more likely to be Russian. It is ideal for country house, built from timber or rounded logs. Next to the Russian bathhouse you can install a carved bench for relaxation or a set: a table and block stools, deliberately rough and massive.

A donkey carved from wood with a cart full of flowers is a symbol of hard work and perseverance.

The frame of the well is made of ordinary logs, the lid is made of boards, but the unexpected combination with flowers turns it into a worthy garden decoration

You can install a wooden well - a symbol of Russian antiquity. It can be both active and decorative.

The use of stones in garden decoration

Stones, like wood, - natural material, but most often they are used in their natural, unprocessed form. They are beautiful in themselves and symbolize the power of nature and the passage of time; it’s not for nothing that Japanese philosophers love to arrange rock gardens. It is difficult to correspond to Japanese philosophy in Russian reality, so in our summer cottages you are more likely to find some kind of hybrid from, alpine hill and more simple solutions– borders for flower beds, paths.

Several stones of various shapes and low green bushes create a composition that looks great and does not require constant care.

In any case, stone is a noble material in any form. Even a handful of gravel in combination with water or a flower looks elegant, not to mention specially prepared slabs, pieces of granite or marble.

Relief irregularities suburban area can be used for landscape decoration, for this you will need several stones and bushy flowers

A rockery, a dry stream, a stone path through a pond - any decoration of the garden with stones looks appropriate and harmonious. And the most important thing is that arranging compositions requires only imagination and availability natural resources. In mountainous areas it is not a problem to find a scattering of stones, but in flat areas, unfortunately, there is no available material. In this case, you can buy a stone, since many companies sell it. They offer a choice of:

  • rubble stone;
  • boulders;
  • blocks;
  • crushed stone;
  • gravel;
  • decorative filling;
  • granite, marble chips;
  • masonry stone.

A ton of material costs on average from 5,000 to 10,000 rubles.

If the area of the plot allows, you can create a successful composition from a dry stream, a bridge, flowers and decorative figures

Fun DIY plastic crafts

Thousands of plastic bottles are thrown away as unnecessary, although they can make funny figures and decorative elements. Of course, it is not as pretentious and presentable as a stone hill with rose bushes, but it is made with your own hands and creates a homely atmosphere and comfort in your summer cottage.

Framing flower beds with plastic bottles buried in the ground is a budget decor option

You can save bottles for six months and use them to make an artificial garden of cacti and palm trees, adding an unexpected element of exoticism.

Several hundred plastic bottles different color needed to create a palm tree that looks like a real one

But more good option– take a few plastic bottles and make funny penguins that will lift your spirits just by their appearance. If there are children in the family, they will happily take part in this fun.

Funny penguins made from plastic bottles - a suitable decor for christmas tree installed in the garden

Operating procedure:

  1. Take two plastic bottles and cut off their lower parts to a length of 10 cm.
  2. Connect the two resulting elements with the empty sides inward and the blank sides outward.
  3. Cover the “barrels” with white acrylic paint to create a blank.
  4. Draw a traditional black “tailcoat”, hat, scarf, beak and eyes.
  5. Attach a pompom to the top.

Repeat the same thing several times so that the little penguin doesn’t get bored. That's it - the penguin family is ready to go out into the garden.

To create these fabulous flowers the lawn required only plastic spoons, knives and forks stuck in the ground

Plastic is malleable and flexible material, so you can use it to create a variety of decorative decorations for the garden.

Decoration personal plot– a creative process that allows you to take a break from working in the garden. A well-equipped, decorated area becomes a wonderful vacation spot for dacha owners and their guests.

When you want something beautiful, but there is only an empty piece of land with two old trees, it is not at all easy to decide what to do with this piece. Application of professional skills landscape design it costs expensive. Isn't there something simple? budget method decorate the garden with scrap materials? Eat!

"Rainbow" in the rose garden

You will need a small plot of land, ordinary stones and acrylic paint. IN in this case the unsuccessfully overwintered remains of a rose garden act as an experimental site.

By the way! Anything can be useful, for example, wood cuts, from which you can build an excellent path for children and adults. It is better if the wood is dry. At least not wet.

This style of landscape design can be safely called “positivism”. It is ideal if you have children, you love flowers and think that summer is a time of bright colors.

Now it would be a good idea to mulch the hole. But there is no mulch. But there are stones. Smaller pebbles can be used as mulch. Carefully place small white pebbles on the leveled soil around the trunk. The radius is about 15 cm. If they are not white enough or even multi-colored, you can tint them right on the spot after laying them with white acrylic spray.

Large stones will have to be painted with a brush. Two layers of paint (one, and when dry, a second) are quite enough. The stones do not have to be painted on all sides - one of them will still lie on the ground.

Advice! Acrylic paints dilute by half with water, otherwise they will be too thick and will lie unevenly. Plus, they will last a long time.

A 200 ml jar of paint is enough for about 60 large stones. Large stones, painted bright colors, will serve as a border for the roses.

Green trim

After this the fun begins. According to the author of the project, the emerald grass of the lawn will grow around the rose bushes. This means that something else will be needed. Namely: sand or peat, humus, lawn fertilizer, grass seeds.

It is best to sow immediately sports turf, which contains at least four varieties of herbs. You need to sow thickly. Immediately multiply the area for which the seeds are intended written on the box with seeds by two.

Advice! To ensure that the lawn lies flat and uniform, grass seeds are mixed with sawdust. You should not mix it with sand, it is heavier and will not give uniformity with light seeds.

Before seeding your lawn, finish laying decorative pebbles around the white mulch pebbles. There is no need to press the stones into the soil, just lay them on the surface. When the grass begins to grow, it will slightly cover the pebbles.

Near rose bushes lay out a path from painted wooden cuts. It is not necessary to make a continuous path; “steps” are enough so that you can walk on them or stand on them to care for the roses. While the young grass is growing, you should not trample it.

How to sow the perfect lawn

  1. To prepare the soil, loosen it with a rake, breaking up any lumps.

  2. Then spread a thin layer of humus (1 cm) over the surface and sprinkle sand mixed with peat (2 cm) on top.
  3. Nutritious soil is not needed, since you have already laid a layer of humus under the future lawn. But for greater effect, you can sprinkle the prepared area with starting fertilizer for the lawn in granules.
  4. After this, compact the soil. You don’t need a special roller or even a large barrel for this. Two small sheets of plywood or any material that you can stand on is enough. Place one sheet, stand on it, place the second one next to it, and move onto it. And so on until the entire area is level.

  5. Now you need to water the soil well and you can sow the seeds. They must be dry. When purchasing, pay attention to the packaging date on the box. It is advisable that it was no more than two years ago.
  6. Try to sow evenly in all directions. The denser you sow, the denser the turf will be and the more resilient the lawn will be.

  7. Covering the seeds with soil. A layer of 1 cm is enough. Water with shallow sprinkling so as not to wash away the soil.

Advice! If there is neither peat nor sand, buy a construction sieve. Choose a place in the garden with dry soil and sift it through a sieve. It will make an excellent backfill.

If it is cool at night or an invasion of birds is expected, you can cover the crops with film. Under the film it is 5-7 degrees warmer, the seeds will sprout faster. And the moisture necessary for the seeds to hatch will be better preserved in the shelter.

Advice! Ants from one anthill can take half of your freshly sown lawn to themselves in a couple of hours. To prevent this from happening, you should take care in advance to neutralize ants, as well as slugs, which will happily eat young grass.

Now all that remains is to wait for the roses to bloom and the greenery to grow. One weekend and a minimum of funds were spent on all the beauty. Moreover, success is guaranteed, since there is nothing complicated in creating such a project. Looks very positive. Easy to care for. It evokes the admiration of neighbors and the wild delight of children.

Flower "stream"

You have a summer cottage, a vegetable garden, a garden, a lawn, a flower garden, but something is missing. The soul asks for beauty. For example, I would like to make an artificial pond with my own hands. No, not a pool, but at least a small pond or stream. But it's so difficult! You need to dig a hole, carry cobblestones, buy film or a plastic container, tinker with aquatic plants, purchase all sorts of mechanisms - filters, pumps. Do you think beauty is never simple? It still happens! The easy way acquire beauty without additional material and physical costs - a stream of flowers.

A flower stream is not even an element of landscape design, but a method. An unconventional way of planting plants not in the usual flowerbed, but in the form of a stream flowing from a container. All costs are to purchase the container. Although, you can also use an old clay pot.

Miracle from a pot

To create a flower stream, you will need a part of the site where you were going to make another banal flower bed. Container - this can be: a pot, jug, bottle (any container from which the future “stream” will originate) and flower seedlings ready for planting. You can sow a stream with seeds, but in this case, firstly, beauty will have to wait, and secondly, it is not known how the seeds will sprout. The stream may turn out to be uneven and with “bald spots”. Seeds can be pecked by birds, washed away by rain, and dragged into their homes by ants.

Ground cover plants

The choice of plants for a stream is not as obvious as it seems at first glance. Ground covers and creeping plants can be used.

Table. Selecting ground covers according to growth conditions.

Growth conditionsTypes of ground cover plants
If the bed of a flower “stream” runs through illuminated areas of the garden, it is necessary to plant light-loving ground covers. These include: aubrieta, creeping carnations, rezuha, carpet phlox, alyssum.
If the stream location is in partial shade, plant plants that can tolerate shade.Plant dwarf astilbe, tiarella, yellow lamiastrum, brunera, tenacious, trifoliate Waldsteinia, and buttercup anemone. These plants will bloom luxuriously and feel great in the shade, for example, among trees.
A flower stream can be created even in a heavily shaded place. To do this, use shade-tolerant ground covers: fragrant violet, small periwinkle.
A stream can be created even where there is constant dampness and the earth “does not dry out” even in summer.Moisture-loving plants: cinquefoil, hauttuynia, coin loosestrife form a lush and colorful “water flow”.

Annuals

Along with ground covers, you can use many annuals to create a flower stream, you just have to choose low-growing varieties, no higher than 30-50 cm. The list of annuals for this purpose is huge. Limit yourself to only those that can be sown in the ground in your climate. An impressive list - there is plenty to choose from.

By the way! Bulbous flowers will look effective. They can be planted close to each other, and weak and defective ones can be replaced if necessary.

You can use a stump instead of a pot

Bulbous flowers and perennials

The “bulbous” version of the stream can be made of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocuses, muscari, glamini (miniature gladioli), anemones, freesias, cyclamens and other perennials.

Rooted perennials can also be used. Primrose, jasmine, saxifrage, speedwell will look great in line with pansies, Carpathian bellflower, armeria, chickweed, daisies, liverwort.

No slope for the "stream"? Create it using a mound of earth

Stream planting

Having decided on planting material Having found a suitable jug, indicating the length and width of the future flower stream, you can begin planting.

  1. The soil is dug up, cleared of weeds, well leveled and moistened.
  2. Then the plants are placed in pre-marked areas.
  3. Everything is watered.
  4. It is important to remember that ground cover plants grow quickly, so their planting areas must be limited, and shoots emerging from the banks of the stream must be regularly removed.

Growing up

Lianas occupy in the hierarchy ornamental plants special place. Their stems are flexible and unstable (in herbaceous annuals, tree-like vines are found among perennials). But the vitality and desire to grow “to the sky” are unparalleled. They only need support. Give the vines support, and they will turn your site into a fabulous flowering kingdom.

Vertical gardening, which uses vines, is a very important part of landscape design. While most plants can “handle” horizontal surfaces, fences, walls, pillars, balconies, and terraces can only be decorated with the help of vines.

Why are vines good?

  1. For the most part, vines do not require large area nutrition. They only need a little soil (half as much as any other plant) to give you much more foliage and flowers than any other plant.
  2. Lianas can grow near the wall of the house, where there is a foundation and a layer of soil above the concrete of only 15 cm.
  3. Lianas can grow in tubs and flower pots.
  4. Lianas are very resistant to drought, excess humidity, and many are resistant to cold.
  5. They do not require highly nutritious soil. Of course, they will not refuse fertilizers, but even without feeding they will grow and bloom, and some will also bear fruit.
  6. Annual vines are beautiful because their growth rate is up to 5 cm per day.

Advice! If you urgently need, already this summer, to decorate an unsightly wall or cover a pergola, gazebo, or terrace with blooming greenery, seek help from morning glory, dolichos, sweet peas, kvamoklit, kobe, nasturtium, decorative beans. These fast-growing vines will cope with decorating the site perfectly.

This climbing annual grows up to 4m tall, or wherever you point it. If you don’t direct it, it will “direct” itself. It will braid everything that can and cannot be braided - a fence, a neighbor's fence, a tree, a sunflower, grapes.
This is a climbing annual from the legume family. Its stems can grow up to 3-3.5 m. The stems are thin and ribbed. And the flowers are from 3 to 5 cm in diameter, of various tones and colors and with a delightful subtle but strong aroma.
Grows up to 5 meters. The flowers are not large, but very interesting shape. The colors are also very different - from white to red and variegated. Beans can bloom until frost. Its foliage, together with its flowers, looks very decorative and, at the same time, elegant.
This plant is interesting not only (not so much) for its flowers, but for its openwork leaves. Quamoclitus also has flowers. They are funnel-shaped, intensely red, and quite numerous. But the foliage of the plant, bright green, dissected into many “lobules”, reminiscent of either the needles of evergreen trees or acacia, helps the flowers of the quamoclite to appear in all their scarlet glory.
This plant is extremely elegant. Its leaves are large, trifoliate, dark green in color. purple tint. The flowers are in the form of beans. Large, purple and emitting a magical aroma. Dolichos blooms late - at the end of summer. But it blooms until frost, until the end of October.
Climbing kobeya differs from other vines in its very beautiful and large flowers. The flowers, up to 9 cm in size, are simply fantastic. In the shape of bells, slightly elongated, and from them long stamens peek out far beyond the flower. Kobeya blooms from mid-summer until frost. Flowers come in milky and purple color. Violet ones are first greenish, then creamy, and only then they turn lilac (or acquire a bluish tint) and become purple. Therefore, on one vine you can simultaneously see flowers of three different shades.
Very helpful and highly appreciated decorative flower. Nasturtium leaves, flowers and fruits are used in cooking, cosmetics, folk medicine. Grows up to two meters. It grows very quickly. The leaves are large, wide, beautifully irregular in shape. The flowers are “gramophones” of sunny colors - from dark burgundy to lemon yellow. They bloom all summer and half of autumn.

Growing annual vines

There is nothing difficult about growing herbaceous annual vines. You can sow them directly into the ground (since these plants develop rapidly, it is better that the soil is loose and fertilized).

  1. Sow at the end of May.
  2. Make shallow holes and place 2-3 seeds in each hole.
  3. If the seeds are small, you can sow them in furrows. Depth - about two centimeters.
  4. They water the crops and wait.
  5. You won't have to wait long. In one and a half to two weeks, sprouts will appear.
  6. After another two weeks, it is worth preparing supports for them (stretch ropes, install pergolas) on which they will climb.

If you want to get annual vines to bloom earlier, it makes sense to grow seedlings first and then plant them in open ground. Seeds for seedlings are planted in April, in separate peat pots (for most herbaceous vines weak root system, which should not be injured during transplantation).
